Topic: Questions about buying an AP

We have never gotten an AP before, as we typically would just go a couple of times a year. But with our daughter now going to UCI, I'm thinking AP's would be nice for us and an opportunity/excuse to meet "halfway" more often.

I've never bought one, so my questions are basic. It looks like Costco offers the best deal on the deluxe, and since I don't want too many blackout days on the weekends, that would seem the way to go.

So I guess I just go into Costco and buy one? Alternately, if I don't decide to go with Costco (since I don't currently belong to them), I can buy them at the front gates?

After I have them, they must get us in the front gates, right? And then we go to an AP center and get our pictures taken and cards made? Is that about right? Is the AP center in DCA now rather than DL? I know these seem like basic questions, but this will be a first for us. Thanks for your help.

As Darkbeer posted in another thread Costco is the best deal currently. You can buy them at the gates, online at the disneyland site or AAA also. You will go to Disneyland to get your permanent AP (with picture). I don't think they do it at DCA. If I remember correctly the AP center is under the bridge off to the right after you walk through the gates.

Do you have a friend who is a Costco member? What Costco sells are "Gift Certificates", so once they are bought, anyone can use it.

Yes, as mentioned above, you can buy it at the park, or online. You pay the regular price, and won't get the $50 gift card though.

As for the process, if you have a Costco Gift Certificate, or want to buy it at the park, you go to the Main Ticket Booths first, wither to pay or exchange the certificate for a "ticket" that allows you into the park.

If you have a "eTicket" (Print at Home) voucher from Disneyland.com, you can go straight to the turnstiles).

The ONLY place that does AP processing is the Bank of Main Street in Disneyland (it is open longer hours than DCA). You take your "ticket"/voucher to the Bank to get your photo taken and have the actual AP (credit card piece of plastic) handed to you while you wait.

Got my DD10 her's on Saturday - it was very easy. But since she had one that just expired we were able to skip the bank part - they just put her last picture on the new pass.
The Costco was very easy to get to - It was just down Harbor past the 91 freeway on the right hand side.

The Costco in Fullerton is about one mile North of the 91 Freeway.
There is also a Costco in Garden Grove just South of the 22 Freeway.
Be sure to get the Costco American Express credit card. For me, the rebate covers the Membership Fee.

GottaLDV - Were you required to have ID for your DD at any point in the AP process?

I'm going to buy DAPs for the fam at Costco. Of course DD(5) and DS(4) don't have driver's licenses. I don't usually take their birth certificates on domestic road trips, but it would stink if I got down to DL and needed them.

No the DAP from Costco is not a southern Ca AP - It is open to anyone and everyone. As a matter of fact the one I bought was for my DD10 and the ticket lady even read off our address...which is in NoCal..

I still have my friends tickets (costco gives you a ticket you must take to the ticket booth - not turnstile) no where on there does it have zip code or SoCal restrictions that I could find.

They are just limiting the selling of them to SoCal Costco's

Wow you are fast!

Actually, I was just wondering if they needed an ID for any reason. The terms and conditions on Disney's AP site just says 'additional ID may be required'. We don't normally carry ID for them...
