C-Queen, we were surveyed this year also. It was worthless. They stopped us getting off a ride and asked how the CMs did their jobs and asked us to rate them. It's impossible to rate someone you saw for maybe 3 seconds as they wave you throucgh or point to the ride vehicle. Like you I thought the survey format was wrong. It didn't really allow for free discussion. I found it to be a waste of time.

Sorry for double post...... If Disney wants a survey of the guests experiences, then give me a sheet of paper at check in and ask me to turn it in at check out and I will give them the entire works. The surveys don't work because the experience is in the details and they just want overall impressions. Don't ask me overall cleanliness. Ask me where I found things that needed to be cleaned.

Getting back to the thread, I think alot of the new rides will be classics. Soarin, Tower of terror, splash mountain, philharmagic, peter pan, spaceship earth redone was great, the tree of life might not be a ride but I still think it will be just as amazing in 40 years. This year we rode Toy Story mania and I thought this was a very creative new ride. It was totally different from anything I had seen before. As this concept matures the following rides will be even better. I thought about including mission space but as I get older it gets harder to enjoy even though it does exactly what it is supposed to do and does it very well.

^^I don't really get the intense love showered on Soarin'. It's basically an Imax film with an admittedly neat lift-off. But the motion of the ride vehicles during the film is slight enough to make this a glorified Imax movie in my eyes. I wouldn't say M:S is more enjoyable, but it's certainly more unique and distinctive. But I doubt either lasts 40 years.

<<The Buzz line always seems to be a mess for whatever reason>>

I'd say lack of upkeep and a 'don't give a damn' 'tude from management.

Just guessing, though ... ;-)

>> I had a great time on THAT trip!
(the last stay at my beloved DAK Lodge before the DVC plague descended on it!) <<

<<I haven't been since they started building it. I sure hope it doesn't change the feel of the resort for me. We've never stayed there, but we've eaten
there on numerous occasions. It's unusual to find a Resort with 3 very fine eateries. We have spent hours there just looking at things. That place is Disney done right.>>

I agree with all of the above. I have stayed there between 8-10 times now since it opened in 5/01. It is my second-favorite WDW resort.

I also visit it regularly (like I did last month) when I am not staying there.

But when you add timeshares to the mix, it does change things. (and I am going to try really hard not to take a shot at DVCers :-) )

They've done improvements. Even the non-DVC floors have (or are being renovated). I walked through a brand new hallway two weeks ago and while different than the original carpeting, it is in keeping with the theming.

So in some ways the resort is looking better.

But then dining ... Mara has absolutely been destroyed in quality and variety. I still remember its first two years when many Disney CMs and suits would search it out because it had such great unique African-inspired cuisine like durban sugar can chicken skewers, tandori-chicken pizza, amazing smoked tomato soup, African house salad. They've been dumbing it down for years, but now it might as well be Pecos Bill's or Liberty Inn. There is nothing remotely unique and the quality has fallen.

Boma, while still excellent, has also seen its menu offerings dumbed down to appeal to the chicken fingers, mac n cheese and burger crowds.

Jiko is still wonderful, but it too has a more bland slate of offerings at prices that have doubled since the place opened ... and, no, costs haven't doubled.

There is a different feel from any timeshare resort (which have kitchens and folks traipsing through lobbies with bags from WalMart) and a high end deluxe resort. And now almost every WDW deluxe resort has a timeshare component. I, for one, don't like that change ... and I fully admit it might be the elitist in me ... but either way, when DVC comes, changes follow.

<<I believe it was Kennesaw Tom who pointed out in an earlier post about the unique parks, and Resorts still coming out of WDW. I think he might have a good point with this. Has Disney put their best talent into designing Resorts rather than theme park rides? When you look at AKL the Park itself is a classic. It's Imagineering at it's best.>>

Absolutely. They build amazing resorts, even the value motels have some great features.

But at some point, does it matter?

How many people would travel to WDW if there were no parks to visit just nice resorts to stay at?

<<Look at most of the Resorts on property. The rooms themselves, and the service might not be as grandiose as you would expect from Disney, but the Resorts for the most part are stunning. We've spent a considerable amout of time just visiting all the resorts. I think that one could argue that Disney has abandoned the designing of classic rides to concentrate on their building boom.>>

One could argue that ... and make a very compelling argument too!

<<While I was completely floored by Spirits report on Hong Kong it does give a glimmer of hope to that resort.>>

Why? I tell it like I see it. I really liked what I saw at HKDL. It could be an amazing world class Disney resort IF ... IF ... IF ... it gets the proper funding and investment.

And even if it sucked, which it most assuredly doesn't, it's in HONG KONG (one of the world's most amazing cities).

I'd say the same about DL, DLP and TDL ... they are all located in huge, vibrant, world-class cities, so when you're done with Disney there's plenty to see and do.

WDW is located in ... in ... ... in Orlando, Florida.

<<Im sure you, and your family would enjoy all 3 Asian resorts.>>

Three? Shanghai isn't a done deal ... yet!

<<I know I wish I could visit them as well as Paris. >>

I wish you could too, MPierce, it would certainly change your perspective on what Disney can and does do ... and what it chooses to do or not do in Orlando.

<<Furthermore, when you are on WDW property you can't help but see all the finished DVC contruction as well as NEW DVC construction going on. WDW is not stale by any means.>>

See ... that's how WDW's 'leadership' team views things.

New timeshares = fresh product.

I would disagree.

WDW wasn't created to be The Timeshare Kingdom of the World ...

Thanks for the report carribean queen. You should be applauded for spending that much time on a research survey. They should have at least sprung for a nice meal for your time. I'm afraid I would have lost interesr after a few minutes when I saw the direction the survey was taking. It sounds like your typical corporate survey. They mostly are designed so the execs can light each other cigars, and pat each other on the back. Just look at what a great job we are doing. We are giving the guest what they want. Now, what can we get away with next.
