I've heard people saying their company is canceling their annual Christmas parties to save money, saw this on the news too.
Seeing as how Disney is hurting just as much as everyone else, I was wondering if it affects the Cast Member Christmas parties.
Just curious because I know they close that park early for the parties.

Disney is Not Hurting, they are still making more $$$ then lots of other companies, since the US Dollar is so weak, international tourist and taking advantage and Tourism is still doing well, also, many American's are vacationing within the US, instead of going to other countries, since it's cheaper. So Disney is NOT suffering, they are just a cheap greedy company that doesn't care about it's employees.

Companies have Christmas parties so you don't think of how little they pay you.

If a company really wanted to show employees how much they appreciated them they'd give them a raise instead of a Christmas party.

My goodness, so much negativity! I don't suppose asking you to count your blessings and why do you care what some other company is doing or not doing would be pointless, right?

DyGDisney, the Disneyland.com calendar shows Disneyland closing at 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, December 8 & 9. Those are the evenings of the Cast Member parties. :-)

I'll just add, that due to serious competition in the industry I work in, we haven't had a Christmas party or company picnic in years. And there's a good possibility I'll be laid-off in 2009 (with a full year of severance pay and benefits) after nearly 33 years.

Change happens. Businesses need to stay competitive and keep the shareholders happy. Just the way of life.

That said, I'm grateful for my job, the living I've earned over the years, and the fact that it's given me the skills to get out there and find a new one if need be.

All Disney employees are Cast Members, so they're all invited to a party. Not sure if they had some executive-level Christmas party in the past, but if they did away with that, so what? Go to the Disneyland and have fun! :-)

Nevermind my exec-level Disney party thing... I misread a bit of the original post and thought it was Disney-specific. ;-)

Sorry, I didn't mean to upset anyone. I'm not going to Disneyland that week, just curious because I know Disney's stock has dropped dramatically, and when we were at DL, the cast members were talking about how bad things were.

Can't really say why I asked.

"Party?" It is not a "Party".

Partys offer free food and maybe some alcohol. There is no Free food or Alcohol at this "Party". Basicly, it's just Disneyland Park open after hours for a couple of hours for Cast Members and 1 guest only. You want food? You have to pay for it. You can't even come in with your whole family for this "Family Holiday Party" unless they are all listed as your dependents, so siblings and parents don't count unless you legally support them. You get a free candy cane, and ornament, and a free photo with a character, but you have to wait in a line and waist half your night to get the free photo. They don't even run Space Mountain with the lights on anymore like they use to.

I'm not trying to be ungrateful, but I can go on rides, eat candy canes, or take pictures with characters anytime I want to. This "Party" is nothing overly special. For a company who's been underpaying there employees, and acts like they have no money to pay their workers, or give them hours, or even buy more chairs from a cast member break room, they sure did somehow find $$$ to through us a "Lavish" holiday "Party".

I'm sorry, but the Disney company is evil and greedy and stingy and barely pays me enough or gives me any hours to be able to afford to pay my Rent and bills, and giving a free candy cane isn't going to make everything better. If they really want to show their appreciation of their Cast Member, they can thank us by paying us enough, NOT with a cheap party.

"they sure did somehow find $$$ to through us a "Lavish" holiday "Party"."

It costs almost nothing for them to put on this party. The same underpaid CMs that run the park during the day run a few rides after hours.

Companies claim to show their appreciation to employees by throwing them these parties. I'm sorry, but true appreciation is shown by increasing the compensation received by hard working employees. Christmas parties are an empty gesture.

Cast members should realize that Disneyland is not a full-time career. The average tenure of an employee has dropped from years to months. Disneyland is at best a part-time job for those that are working through school or want to moonlight on the side.

The fact is that Disney wants it to be this way and the average annual passholder doesn't really care or see any drop in quality. Complaining about wages on the Internet is not going to raise your wage.

Go to school. Work toward a better career and a better future for yourself. You won't find it at Disneyland.
