| kennect Sat 11/29/2008 8:16p | WDW is a mere six hours down the road from us if we hit it when no Interstate construction on 75 is going on...If there is it can really put a cramp into the overall time frame...The Georgia portion of the trip is rather boring..And even more boring on the way back...But after years of doing this the drive has become less painful due to the ability to break it down into miles and music...Being as close as we are I would prefer the drive over flying...By the time we made it to the airport and dealt with all of that very little time would be saved...So for us we are somewhat in the middle considering flying versus driving...For the moment driving wins out...Plus the south isn't so bad to drive through...Has anyone else around here ever noticed the catfish restaurant that is on 75 that has all the billboards about Jesus?..
Someone else mentioned the drive down on 95...Now that is something of interest...There are some great places to stop and see along the way in Georgia...Savannah is just mere minutes off of the interstate and is something to truly enjoy...A fascinating city if you are into that type of thing..One visit there and you will know immediately why "Midnight" was such a huge hit...Hilton Head, SC is another great little stop that isn't too far off 95...And let's see what else is along 95 as you get into Florida...Saint Augustine shouldn't be too far off the interstate...And by the time you hit it you are almost there...Just a little further south around Daytona, my home town, you will hit the golden ticket, I-4, that will put at Disney's doorstep... |

| Disney and beyond Sat 11/29/2008 8:21p | Driving from Atlanta to Tampa was extremely unplesent, I can't imagine what going from Illinois to Orlando would be like.
As for the actual topic. I say meh. Disney can screw around all they want with third parties, All I really pay attention to is what they are doing that is their own. |

No.
But this move, a brainchild of Jay Rasulo and Al Weiss, reeks of the 'we need to CAPTURE AND HOLD EVERY guest that comes to Central Florida and make sure that every penny they spend comes at WDW' mindset that began to take hold under Michael Eisner in the mid-90s ... the idea that Disney should be all things to all people and thusly seperate them from their money.
I liked the land better with unkempt orange groves, frankly.

Sure Danny ... because Disney seems to be doing so well with quality control over what they actually own and operate in Central Florida, right?

Relatively speaking though, they are.
I'd rather have Disney designing the surrounding areas than others. I don't really see what the big deal is though. |

Overall, I'd say yeah, they're doing OK (and I know we disagree on this). This would be a good point, however, to point out the one item that really caught my eye on my last visit a month ago. The handrails in the Space Mountain queue were an embarassment of chipped paint. In some areas there was more metal showing through than there was paint. It really stood out as being very poor upkeep on an attraction that puts quite a few people through there daily.

| MPierce Sun 11/30/2008 2:24p | I can understand Disney wanting Four Seasons on property. They have a recognized quality establishment. Besides Disney really doesn't know how to offer five star accomadations. I just don't see the reasoning in offereing cheap motel rooms on property. That just lowers the quality of the resort in general, and allows an outside vendor to compete with your value resorts. It is my firm belief that the Outside World is already close enough. I don't know how Flamingo Crossing would have benefited WDW. |
