Sorry if this has been discussed already...

This weekend I noticed that tripods are once again showing up inside the parks. I went to City Hall to ask if a policy change has taken place. After 15 minutes of waiting, I got the official word that indeed tripods are once again allowed. The emphasis on photography or videography is on the camera itself, not the tripod.

I do remember a discussion about what constitutes a "professional" camera. Maybe the change in tripod policy was also discussed then.

I went to the security check-points to ask the CMs working there if they had heard of the new policy and all of the ones I spoke to acknowledged that tripods are OK and they have been letting them through.

Bottom line, tripods=OK..."professional" cameras= Not OK.

I didn't know that they had (temporarily) banned tripods from DLR. I know they recently made that change at TDR, which was mostly due to the huge numbers of guests bringing in tripods. I assume the DL policy had to do with the Lindsay Lohan thing a while back, which I still feel got blown out of proportion a little, but it makes sense.

I've often considered bringing a tripod to help get consistantly good pictures at night (it seems like only 1/3 of mine come out not blurry and the correct color balance with my camera), but most of them are just too bulky to carry around. Maybe one of those mini-tripods with the bendy legs that you can wrap around a fence or something...

Wow, never knew that they'd been banned at any point. I have an awesome, super lightweight, tripod that I nabbed for about $15 from newegg.com a few years back. I actually bought it specifically to be able to get the DL night shots I'd been trying to get for way to long.

Some of my favorite shots of the park that I've gotten were only possible thanks to that tripod. I was thinking about bringing it along this weekend as well since I've never done any holiday shots with it, which is why I clicked on this thread. Man, I would be sad if I couldn't have a tripod in DL.

Mind you, mine fits nicely in one of the large lockers, so it's also not like it's something that I drag around all day either.
