The immersion factor is HUGE and only the combination of length of time, and detailing can deliver that.

Pirates is Pirates because of the slow journey from the dock through the Bayou. It gives you time for your eyes to adjust, relax, and get prepared for the interesting story that is about to be told. It's like throwing a log in the fireplace, pouring yourself a cocktail, and curling up on the couch to read a good book.

The Mansion also delivers in much the same way.

So length of time, as well as detailing make the difference, not just one or the other.

"Somehow? Here's how: Disneyland Park."

Yes, but several other parks in the top 20 do not have lengthy Disney-style rides either.

I agree with trekkerus that length isn't necessarily what makes Disneyland attractions memorable or special. It should be pointed out here that Disneyland's most popular ride, Space Mountain, is less than 5 minutes. Several other popular and well-known attractions like Mr. Toad, and Peter Pan are equally as short and are quite popular.

As ecdc pointed out, and based on what I've read and heard from fans over the years is that DCA's problem, especially when compared to DL, is that the park doesn't meet Disney's standard for quality and excellence. Whether the average length of the rides is a defining factor in drawing that conclusion is anyone's guess.

With that said, I do think that DCA should have had at least one or two headlining immersive pull-out-all-the-artillery type attractions at opening. The perception is that DCA is weak and it's most likely due to a lack of stellar Disney E ticket attractions.

Toy Story Mania is about six minutes, grizzley is about seven.

Has anyone mentioned Golden Dreams? That was over five minutes.

But that is not a "ride."

Re Space Mountain as "most popular": that's a difficult claim, because it certainly isn't the most ridden--numerous Attractions board more guests, including major Attractions on the Westside, the Disneyland Railroad, and others.

The Attraction that has the most consistently long line? Possibly--but at least a dozen others have lines from the moment they open to the moment they close, some without capacity that ramps up and down (Pan and Toad, for example, have consistent capacity throughout the operating day). So you can't use this as a measure, because many Attractions "max out" each day (ignoring natural fluctuations in Cast Member performance).

The most popular per Guest surveys? Possibly, but unlikely--many Guests cannot ride it at all (it having age, height and condition restrictions), and so are unlikely to prefer it. Many are likely excluded from surveys because of their age.

Etc.

Please explain the basis for your assertion.

Anyhow, length of time is an element of scope, and scope, more than anything, is what sets Disneyland apart. What other scary dark rides compare in scope (in its many dimensions) with the Haunted Mansion? What other boat ride compares, in execution, with Mark Twain?

There was an article several years ago in which Pressler was asked what attraction at DLR had the highest guest rating and he said Space Mountain, followed by Soarin'.

Paul Pressler could not have named which park either of those were in. Besides, "rating" begs my very question--what on earth does that mean?

They
do
surveys
at
the
park

And those surveys tell them what things like and don't like.

Apparently, at least at that time, the feedback from guests was that Space Mountain was their favorite attraction. Does that need to be questioned?
