Liking the logic, blue. But then when was a Disney forum discussion ever decided by logic?

Well blue can't help that, dan...we're all quite mad here. You can see that I'm not all there myself. :)

Do you realize that the 9 year LP anniversaries are beginning? Good grief. Seems impossible, doesn't it?

I definitely agree that their reason could be declining relevance, I just think it's a stupid reason. :-)

I am wondering if he will be back on the island once the days are warmer and longer again.

The island didn't look like it was too busy last weekend when we were there.

This whole mess was started by posting a letter that I wrote a month ago on a pirate blog on MySpace. In it, I informed everyone that Jack would no longer be there as of Nov. 15, due to addition of pixies in the park & Disney saying that the budget couldn't afford it. I then had contact info on how to write to Disneyland & request that he be brought back.

Apparently, no one else had heard about this, including a reporter from the San Diego Tribune who subscribed to this blog and saw the letter on it. Having not been aware that Jack was gone before this, he wanted to do a story on the Jacks. He spoke w/the original gentleman who portrayed the Jack face character, the one wrote the article on being Captain Jack at Disneyland. This reporter also contacted me as well. He got much of it wrong and taken out of context & accentuated mostly everything, which was then passed on to the mainstream media who got it twisted around even FURTHER & made it more sleazy than ever. Once TMZ catches hold of something, you know it's garbage.

Brandon, the gentleman who portrayed Jack, said he was completely misquoted by this reporter. KTLA--the newsstation with the worst article, has since retracted some of its statements and rewritten some of the article, admitting that Brandon never said anything regarding "flashing" women.

The official Disney word is the budget thing, but with them, you never know. I was there on the last day that Jack was there, and the people I spoke with all mentioned the "pixie/Tinkerbelle" movie as the culprit.

The whole thing has been blown completely out of proportion. To ascribe this whole mess to some allegedly stupid, drunken women was ridiculous & irresponsible on the part of the media (not really a surprise, tho). In all the times--and they are many, as I have an annual pass--that I have seen the Jacks there, they are ALWAYS accompanied by handlers, their actions are always exemplary in every way, and I have never, EVER witnessed ANY kind of innappropriate behavior on their part (or on the part of any of the guests). I suppose anything's possible, but realistically, they are NEVER alone with anyone & there are always a few Disney employees around them, not only their handlers, but janitorial, maintenance, etc. Even security at times are mulling about. To suggest that an incident such as the media has hyped--erroneously--could take place is dubious at best--these women would have been escorted out of the park by Disney officials.

If you'd like to contact Disney to let them know you've appreciated the actors' performances in portraying Captain Jack Sparrow, please contact them at the following addresses:

Let them know how much you've enjoyed this character & how great these guys are with the kids. They're by far the most engaging and interactive character in the park, and they do so much more to entertain the guests than just smile for photographs & sign autographs. Please request that they be reinstated as Captain Jack Sparrow...they are all fantastic actors & really great people who deserve to reclaim the title of captain.

P.S. This character's popularity is NOT diminishing at all--the problem was putting him at the back of Tom Sawyer's Island, which makes it difficult for people to find him. Whenever he's in New Orleans Square, there is never any trouble locating him. There are always tons of people hanging around visiting with him--more than I ever see with any other character in the park--following him through the streets and just basically enjoying seeing this completely original character come to life.

OK, I don't have any real reason to believe that the above is not true. But then, I've never heard of you before, CaptainSunnyFox, and these 2 posts are your first 2 on LP. So, I guess the question would be who are you, what's your credibility, and why should we believe you? I don't mean that in a snotty way. But a newbie laying it down like that is always kinda suspect in the online world.

I've never heard of this website before and was only directed to it by the website my letter got posted on in the first place. I was just interested in how people felt about the issue on different sites--that's how I found out about this one.

All I can say is that City Hall cited budget issues to me, and that other people working in the park said that because Disney's pushing the pixie movie, they couldn't afford both pixies & Jack.

As I said, as far as his popularity goes, he's never had a problem drawing a crowd--a BIG crowd--until they put him at the back of Tom Sawyer's Island. Kind of hard for people to find him there if they've never been to Disneyland before. That was probably the only reason less people were there to see him.
