| MerryMouseWife Mon 12/29/2008 4:15p | Hi!
My family and I are going February 6 and 7 and Disneyland.com shows the Haunted Mansion closed for refurbishment. Is this different from the removal of the Holiday overlay? Any chance that it won't be down in early February? We were so looking forward to seeing the Mansion as other than the Holiday NBC overlay.
Thanks! I will check back in a little bit (couple of days) to see if anyone knows anything. |

This is for the annual holiday removal so there's really no way it will be delayed, like a normal refurb could be. The only chance it will be open is if they somehow end up ahead of schedule and open it early. But given what a slow time of year this will most likely be, it's hard to see any incentive for them to finish early and get the ride open.
In short, I'd resign myself to the fact that it's most likely going to be closed. I'm currently trying to do that for Pirates (my favorite ride) during my trip in early March, when it's scheduled to be down. So I am sympathetic :) |

I planned this weekend because in past years it has only been for the month of January for the overlay to be struck and the regular Mansion to be put back in place, so I figured we would have it. Sigh. Oh well. I have been a number of times when Matterhorn is down and lived and enjoyed our time in DL. I know we will this time as well. After all, it is about being with our family and friends and spending memorable time together.
Thanks again for your reply. |

| Westsider Sun 1/4/2009 7:12p | The Mansion is closed for almost six weeks this time, instead of the usual 15 to 18 day downtime for Holiday removal. January 5th until February 14th.
New security systems are being installed throughout the ride to bring the ride to a stop if someone gets out of their buggy or reaches beyond a few inches of their buggy. The Holiday removal will be done by the middle of January, as it always is, and then the real work of this rehab will begin as they tear up the floorboards along the track and install all the new sensors and cameras and beams. |

It'll be interesting to see how the sensors work. For example, I have really long arms and am already 6'4". Would I be able to trigger it if I put my arm out too far? In other words, I hope people like me can't inadvertently set it off; I hope it's designed for people being dangerous or trying to jump out. |

| Westsider Sun 1/4/2009 10:43p | In the opinion of the Disneyland Safety Department, a 6'4" man stretching his arms far out of his ride vehicle is unsafe and dangerous behavior. Remain seated with your hands, arms, feet and legs inside the vehicle at all times please.
Remember, this the same department that brought you the new Mark VII Monorails with windows that don't open. |

I guess I just picture myself waving to my kids in the next doombuggy and having the ride jerk to a stop, alarms blare, and Disney security haul me away in a paddy wagon :) |
