I would think that they could probably do a pretty good job of building something under the beams. Sure, it wouldn't be nearly as scenic as what's there now for the Monorail ride, but I don't see it as being entirely impossible.

They could easily build a structure that's about 15 feet tall in there, which is about the height of the spaces used for the Fantasyland darkrides. There are some areas where the beams to get a little low, but they could easily have a lower roof in those sections, like how the railroad track is worked into the show buildings for POTC, the Haunted Mansion, it's a small world, and Splash Mountain. If done carefully, riders won't even notice that they just passed under a 3' wide section of the roof that's a few feet lower than the rest.

Heck, they could even have the ground level of the building a few feet below the level of the walkways. If the entrance was where the current Fantasia Gardens entrance is, then it would be fairly easy to have a ramp or two in the queue area getting the guests down to the level that's currently the bottom of the water. From there, I'd guess that it's probably at least 10' ft to the top of the parade viewing platforms, which could be replaced with some structure that sits on top of the new theoretical building. With something that low under the Monorail beams, there would most certainly be enough room for something along the lines of the other FL darkrides, and maybe even a quick indoor section for Autopia.

I don't know what the plans would be for an attraction put in there, but I would guess that they would have a harder time finding a way to disguise the building as something scenic from the outside (as it would be seen over the back of the parade viewing area and under the Monorail for a good length of time). It would definately change the look of the area from a woodsy park to a more built up area. There are already several styles of buildings in the general Fantasyland area, so it woudl be fairly easy to create something that would work, though it might be tough to make a transition between the Matterhorn chalet and the iasw facade.

So, long story short, if they are really interested in putting an attraction there, the Monorail beams aren't an excuse to stop them. They might use it as a deterrant, but there is plenty of room with what they have now. Heck, they could even take out the extra turns of the Monorail (have it re-enter the park from DTD, go up to iasw, around the Matterhorn, and directly to the station, the right back out of the park), and free up that space, but that requires a real commitment to the idea, which doesn't seem to be something that they're into as much these days.

The best way to work around the beams is to shorten the monorail loop and peoplemover track. The inner spaghetti loop for the monorail could easily be removed and the outer most turn left. There is a section of track near the sub falls that could be removed and thenreconnected elminating that middle section. The same with the peoplemover track. There is a section of track where a "U" turn could be incorporated and then the rest of the track over the old motor boat area removed.

That woudl leave a huge piece of land with only the monorail going around the peremeter

Another way would be to Dig down with the majority of the showbuilding below ground

I have a hunch that tony baxter would like to leave a thumbprint on the park before he retires. He doesn't want to just be a placeholder, he would like to go out with a flourish.

So I would expect 'something' to come from his watch, which would mean it likely has to happen in the next six to eight years.

What would it be? I have no idea. But it just seems unlikely that his 'reign' would pass without some new attraction to show for it. So yeah - I think DL will keep some whiz-bang new attraction within the next ten years.

Disneyland is no more "complete" now than it was in 1972-77 when nary a new attraction opened.

As far as available land goes, there are still parcels outside the berm, too. Combining the Big Thunder Ranch area with the bulk of the pony farm would yield a significant footprint.

Hmmm. Big Thunder Mountain... Splash Mountain... Indiana Jones Adventure... I'd say his thumbprints are pretty well all over the place already!

Yeah I think the park still has room to add new stuff, it will just come at the cost of old stuff.

TL, including Star Tours, is a wealth of possibilities (I see them doing something with autopia eventually, since moving the cars to electric is going to happen one year or another).

Also anyone raise your hands if you truly believe the Pooh dark ride will be there more than 10 years from today. It has short lines already, can you imagine the further line erosion that will occur over the next 10 years?

I forgot to add that Toontown is another place ripe for pulling out old attractions and adding in a new one or two.

>>as well as the LOADS of money being spent on DCA 2.0<<

Um, DCA is a part of Disneyland, ergo, never be completed.

Also there is the rumour of Abe getting reworked.

If anybody's interested, there seem to be plenty of construction walls around the park. On Darkbeer's update on that 'other' site, they seem to be doing work on the part of the Emporium closest to the firehouse, something on the sidewalks in the middle of Town Square near Christmas Tree Point, repaving the Tomorrowland side of the hub (and that will probably travel around until it's done all of Main Street), iasw and HM are closed to remove their overlays and do a few more updates, and the princess shop in Fantasyland is closed to become Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique, and Big Thunder Ranch is closed for the addition of the celebration place (with food...BBQ!?). While none of these are major changes, I do expect to continue seeing small things like that continue to change over the next couple years, keeping the little things fresh. And with the addition of the boutique elsewhere in Fantasyland, it seems that the Fantasyland Theater may again be available for a stage production. I know that would displace the meet n greet, but they managed to make do without it for 50 years, so I would expect they could keep doing that.

Also, on Darkbeer's own site, it looks like they have finished the work on the Plaza Pavillion, and you can see inside the windows. They have set it up to be an AP processing center, which would mean (in theory) they could move out of the Bank of Main Street location they have now. Granted, they have used the PP before as an overflow AP center, and with all the extra AP's people are getting now, they might just need the extra space, especially when you consider that they just rebuilt the kitchen in that building to serve for the NOS kitchen, while it gets rebuilt, and after that it could easily be converted back into a restuarant. Now the interesting this about this is that there is a poster on the wall advertising Great Moments with Mr Lincoln. Sure, it might have been leftover from what was there before (I honestly have no idea), but it was a very extensive rehab, and was purposely put back there. It really wouldn't make any sense at all to put up a sign for an attraction that was closed and had no plans of returning...

"raise your hands if you truly believe the Pooh dark ride will be there more than 10 years from today..."

<--Raises hand. Honestly, it's not the best attraction, but it's not terrible either. It probably gets hourly counts just as high (if not higher than) the Fantasyland rides, but due to larger vehicles, it can take more people per hour, making the lines shorter. It's not great, but enough people like Pooh (I personally can't figure out a single redeeming thing from the entire franchise) that he will stay back there. People need something to do with Junior while the rest of the family goes on Splash, and Pooh seems to fit that bill. Sure, it isn't as good as the Country Bears, but there's no realistic way they're bringing that back. It would be nice to see a longer attraction back there (Pooh is about 3 min, CB was about 17 min, Splash is about 9 min), since the building is large enough for more (though not in the current configuration), but I don't see there being enough problems with Pooh to spend the huge ammount of money it would cost to change it. At least not any time soon.
