how does it work? has it worked well for you and your family? how do the restaurants know that you have purchased it? what restaurants will it not cover? is the tip included? .....actually all thoughts and suggestions (or whatever) would be appreciated on this subject....thanks

In the current version of the plan, you get one snack, one quick serve meal (think fast food), and one table serve meal (think sit-down restaurant). Your quick serve meal includes an entree, dessert and drink. Your table serve meal includes an entree, dessert and non-alcoholic drink. Tip is not included. Some restaurants are known as signature restaurants, and charge 2 points for a meal there. You tell your server that you're on the dining plan (they'll definitely ask!), and your bill will only be for tip and anything outside of the plan. Someone else will list the restaurants - there's a master list out there somewhere.

For me the plan takes more effort than it's worth. I like the signature restaurants, and I also like wine with dinner, so I end up paying quite a bunch even when the meal is on the plan. I just don't save enough for the plan to work for me. But it works well for others.

I like the dining plan. I have used it the 4 times I have been to DW. I liked that my meals were already paid for when I got there. I enjoy planning the sit down resteraunts. We found it cheaper to go to the sit down dinners on the plan. My son who was under 9 at the time was only $11.00 a day. In Aug. 06 we did Cinderella's breakfast on the plan and got a picture package with the plan, no addtional charge. That was nice!

There's a lot of info on allearsnet. I was going back and forth on it and came up with a list of sit down places we wanted to eat, with prices and such. Then I waited to make my ADRs, when we couldn't get our #1 pick for the week, we then decided to skip the plan. Had we gotten all our seatings the Plan would have saved us big money. As it is, we'll do a couple of sit down restaurants and dine casually the rest of the time. There is also a counter service plan for about $20 a day.

You definately cannot be spontaneous about eating at WDW anymore. The dining plan causes most of the restaurants to be booked early. A friend wanted to eat somewhere at EPCOT last week on a last minute trip to the park. They tried a couple of places who were booked and the hostess told them they couldnt wait around to see if a table opened up.

We've never used the DDP, but did look it over last time, I'm pretty sure the Castle meals used 2 points.
All times are Pacific Time (US)
