I think the reason why I never counted it was that the backgrounds were live-action.

It looks amazing! I am so happy to finally see a new Disney princess! When I I saw the first spoiler I was a little bit worried she might have what I like to call 'Ariel face' .. over the top funny faces for kids but this trailer looks beautiful. I can't wait to see it.

"I think the reason why I never counted it was that the backgrounds were live-action."

Oh, I had forgotten all about that. But I guess if "Saludos Amigos" and "3 Caballeros" can count, then they'd count "Dinosaur."

Yeah, but both of those films (except a few short scenes) were complete animation. Dinosaur was CGI inserted into "real" backgrounds. Oh, and thanks for your answer/theory in my Dinosaur thread :)

To return to the topic--

I saw the trailer with Up, and it was wonderful! Didn't show too much, as Disney is prone to do.

However...

At first I was delighted to see the drawing of Aladdin that started the trailer. Then Ariel. Then Belle and Beast. Then Simba.

Is anyone byt me sick of Disney's use of this 'Big 4' group of films? As if the history of animation lives and dies in a 6-year span.

Ever heard of Pinocchio? Tarzan? Stitch? Peter Pan? Dalmatians? Any of these characters would've added dimension to the preview, IMO.

A small quibble, maybe, but it just bugs me.

The alligator playing the trumpet looks like a classic Bluth character. That's what gives me the Bluth vibe, but most of the rest is a very different style.

Basil, that's why I'm always joking that, if I had the skills, I would make a "smart-aleck" Disney trailer... I'd use the whole 75 Years of Magic, but then use clips from Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Aristocats, Black Cauldron, Treasure Planet, Oliver & Company, Make Mine Music and of course, the Daisy Duck of the Big 4: The Rescuers Down Under... come on, it was sandwiched between Mermaid and Beauty...it should be the Fab Five with Al and Simba :)

Yes, absolutely, FBR.

I usually refer to it as the '89 Syndrome.' That is, the belief that Disney started in 1989 with The Little Mermaid.

I'll look at a book cover or a montage and snort derisively, "89ers...hah!"

The true 89er, however, does not acknowledge the existance of The Rescuers Down Under. Never happened, in their little world.
