Well, it keeps them from 'borrowing' my movies.

I recall Uncle Remus being a great character in the film and the white parents being the ones who needed to be enlightened, so I have failed to see what the actual problem is. Maybe as a white man who didn't grow up poor, I'm just blind to the issue.

Walt could have avoided much of the controversy by simply stating when the film takes place. Before or after the civil war. The characters clearly weren't slaves as Uncle Remus is shown leaving the plantation of his own free will and no one is trying to stop him as a runaway. Of course, black sharecroppers of the Jim Crow days didn't exactly live the good life but they certainly weren't slaves. BTW, I have a bootleg DVD and the quality isn't bad at all.

Agreed. I do not understand the hubbub. I don't see anyone banning Gone with the Wind which is far worse. SotS, it is Uncle Remus and his community that are far better than the white folks in the big house.

I think with the right introduction, SotS would be a great release.

Here in Europe, they sometimes still show it on TV.

I always keep an eye on the TV listings for BBC two in the school holidays as they often show some of the rarer Disney Live Action movies.

I managed to see SotS and the Reluctant Dragon in the space of 24 hours last year!

I am hopeful that SotS will one day get a DVD release!!!

I asked two of my friends about this, and the one that actually watched the DVD with me felt that it was bad, since, according to him, it was marketed towards kids and showed the relationship of the master/(former) slave.
