In terms of the dog's intelligence, I just assumed that because he has the ability to talk directly to his dogs he was able to work out things like how to cook and fly planes. If you assume that the dogs are intelligent enough to carry on a complex conversation, I fail to see why they wouldn't be able to understand simple principles like "bite on the bone to make the plane shoot" or "move your paws to the left to make it go left."

In terms of Muntz's age, it could either be explained by the concept that he was incredibly young when he disappeared (around 25, with Carl being 10 so a difference of 15 years) which would make him around 87-90 depending on the age of Carl. It would make feasible sense that he could be somewhat strong under an intense situation considering he spends most of his time sitting in his zeppelin. Once could also easily infer there is some sort of increase of lifespan living in the remote jungles, perhaps due to a specific diet.

At any rate, there have been people who have lived in their 90s who seem fairly spry. If you watch the movie carefully, Charles does very little physical action until the end when he holds the sword. In that scene his back quickly gives out anyway. The only other particularly strong thing Charles does is break down the door at the end of the movie, which already must have been quite damaged from the storm and various times the house was dropped.

This isn't really a huge thing for me, but since we're still talking about it... A collar that turns a dog's thoughts into English is one thing. Something to boost the native intelligence of a dog to the point that it can cook, buttle, and fly planes - that's a whole nuther thing. One doesn't really lead to the other, if we're being picky.

>I have fanwanked it that Carl isn't as old as he looks.<

Fanwanked?

Dogs take to buttling naturally.

(But I've never seen one fanwank, thank heavens.)

Buttling Fanwanks, now that is just fun to say!

Buttling Fanwanks is just slightly erotic. Either that, or it reminds me of Fenway Park and butlers.....

(RMM: have you seen Gran Torino?)

I haven't seen it yet. It's on my list of movies to watch.

There is abundant publicity that states that Carl is 78. That makes Muntz, at minimum, over 90. I hold that he found the Fountain of Youth while seeking that elusive bird in the jungle...

By the way, 5BR, have you seen the UP Ultimate Sticker Book? There are stickers of Muntz, the dogs (including Alpha) and some wonderful poster graphics, including a retro "Beware of Dogs" image.

Not yet, Dug, but I'm sure I will peruse it. If only they made action figures like the ones I mentioned, this would make things so much easier :)

Btw Dug, I do have 2004's Disney Villains Ultimate Sticker Book. Some Villains were missing, but was nice to see Edgar and Sykes included. But Pleakley and Bruce the Shark were included too...
