My mom and I took my younger sibs and my two kids, age 1 and 3 at the time, to DL by ourselves. We stayed at either Del Sol or Desert Inn, they are right next to each other and right across the street from DL. We had no problems and felt perfectly safe.

dont have AAA or AP, I was wondering about the distance for the hotels by the garden walk, is it walkable to DL?

This link I got from a poster no longer here.

http://www.accommodationsneard...ault.asp

It color codes the ones considered walkable.

I believe Darkbeer or someone had a pedometer chart or such with the real distance from the hotels to the park. Maybe a shout out to him.

Do you have someone to buy the tickets for you through AAA? Those would have free parking.

If you are not going to be able to get something walkable at a good rate, I would go with Priceline (3 stars or more in the DL area) Start with a $40 or $50 bid. With the money saved you could either use the ART system or park in the lot. Some of the higher end priceline hotels to have their own shuttles. I think places like the CrownePlaze, Hyatt, Marriott all by Target have shuttles.

We stayed at the Desert Inn a few years ago and it was DISGUSTING!!!!! Very dirty with a real lack of parking or customer service.

I have booked hotels on Priceline/Hotwire 3 times, always getting a very good rate around 50 - 60 a night. I have always bid on 3-1/2 stars and got the following hotels:
Hilton
Hyatt
Crowne Plaza

All have indoor corridors and the Hyatt and Crowne have their own transportation to the park. When we stayed at the Hilton we used Art.

It does sound like Priceline might be the best option for you, my friend suggested the same, seems like a lot of people have been getting the Crowne as mentioned above :)

Did three stars on Priceline and got the Doubletree. VERY nice hotel, and they had their own free shuttle to the resort.

We stayed at Hampton Inn last December.
It is not walking distance but they do have a shuttle. We had a car so we did not use it.
The Hampton was nice. Room was clean. Beds were comfy. Free breakfast was good. We felt very safe.
