okay so I have been reading a few reviews on tripadvisor.com about hotels booked with priceline. it seems that many people have gotten the candlewood suites this hotel seems a little further out than I would like to be....3 miles to disneyland. I also noticed priceline will not let you use the 4 star option for the disneyland area, is that correct.

No they don't have a 4 star option for the DL area.

This one?

Candlewood Suites Anaheim South
2 Star Garden Grove, CA (Anaheim)

This one is only 2 stars.

You can look at the hotels by star rating first to see what type are considered 3 or 3.5 stars by priceline to get an idea of what type you might end up with.

I just wanted to make a comment on the cancellation policy. I'm familiar with hotwire's, and I'd assume priceline would be the same. If you buy the insurance, they are very specific on what's allowed for them to give you your money back. The biggest thing for me is that if you change your plans, for any reason that's under your control, you are NOT covered. If you're sick, or a plane breaks down, or a hurricane comes in to your destination area, those are covered. But if I just change my mind about my dates, or if work requires me to readjust, I'm screwed.

I'm doing hotwire for a car rental in L.A. in about 3 weeks. The price was about 1/2 what I could get through normal channels, and it's with AVIS, so it's very reputable. But I'm still nervous about it, as things tend to come up in my life requiring plans to change. We'll see how it works out.

I just have a feeling that they will not take your word for being sick that you would have to have a note from your Dr and even then they will probably give you grieve.

Here is what I found on the priceline site.

You or a Traveling Companion suffers an unforeseeable Injury, Sickness or death. The Injury or Sickness must be so disabling as to reasonably cause Your trip to be cancelled or interrupted. A Physician must recommend that due to the severity of You or Your Traveling Companion's condition, it is Medically Necessary that You or Your Traveling Companion cancel or interrupt the Trip. You or Your Traveling Companion must be under the direct care and attendance of a Physician; or
Your Immediate Family Member or Your Traveling Companion's Immediate Family Member suffers an unforeseeable Injury, Sickness or death for which the severity or acuteness of such Sickness or Injury or the circumstances surrounding such Sickness or Injury is/are such that an ordinarily prudent person must cancel or interrupt the Trip, curtail or interrupt Your Hotel Reservation, or curtail or interrupt Your Rental Car; or
Your principal residence is made uninhabitable by fire or flood; or
You or Your Traveling Companion are directly involved in an automobile accident, substantiated by a police report, while en route to departure; or
You or Your Traveling Companion are hijacked, quarantined, required to serve on a jury, or subpoenaed

so I think I am going to try priceline....we dont usually have problems with scheduling (keeping fingers crossed) so the cancelation policy is not really an issue with me especially if I can get a good rate.

Next question should I bid sooner or later? Is it more likely that my bid will be accepted if it is closer to my dates? any help appreciated.

I think it just depends, mostly my friend gets the better prices closer to the time, but I know she had a $50 bid accepted and got Crowne Plaza a few months out. Maybe try and see if it's accepted??
