Hello, my family is taking a week long trip to Carlsbad in July. My parents are going to watch our little one and my husband and I are going to go to Disneyland for the day and spend the night. I was wondering what time we should leave Carlsbad in the morning so we can get to the park by around 7:30. Also how bad is traffic in the morning going from Carlsbad to Disneyland? Mapquest says it takes an hour, but I don’t know if that is accurate or not. For the trip back to Carlsbad from Disneyland, how bad is the traffic and what time is rush hour over so we know what time to leave in the AM to miss traffic (might just have to go back to Disneyland for a couple of hours in the morning, oh darn=). Thanks for the help, we are so excited!

My dad lived in Carlsbad years ago. We went to DL from there once. It was a long time ago but it seems like it took longer than an hour though. So I'm afraid I'm no help, just mostly wanted to say: HAVE FUN!

I left Chula Vista @ 0500, stopped for coffee and was in Aneheim by 0630 with enough time to have breakfast at Denny's and made it to the park in time for rope drop...I'd think from Carlsbad it would be less than an hour...as always in SoCal-depending on traffic.

I live in Temecula, which is a little closer and it takes about an hour and 15 to 30 minutes to get to Disneyland from our house. You will take the 5 the whole way and while it is only about 60 miles (give or take a couple) if it is a weekday, you will have some traffic. I would think you would want to give at least an hour and half to two hours to make the trip. Coming back may take longer depending on when you return. It would be to your benefit to return as late as possible, to avoid the bad return traffic (anytime after 7pm, and you should be ok) that can be far worse then the going traffic.
