I've been both times and both are fantastic. Did Mickey's Trick or Treat last year and want to do it again this year. It was so cool just seeing all the costumes and how creative everyone can be!

But there's nothing like the Christmas holidays in the park. All the decorations and snow after the fireworks.

Tough choice. I say go both times!

IMO I would go at Halloween just because you've never seen it and it will be less crowded during the week then it will be at holiday time. I agree that Christmas is a really special time at the resort but Halloween can be pretty neat. Especially when you can find all kinds of other Christmas things to do all around during that time of year. Halloween events can be a little scary for a 7 and 5 year old but Disneyland's is great.

Just a note about October crowds, a lot of schools have breaks in October now and DL can be VERY crowded at times. The new Halloween decor is a great addition tho, so it would be fun to see, since you haven't yet. You're almost guaranteed sunny weather (tho December is nice too, there's a better chance of rain in Dec.). Sometimes we get quite a heat wave in October - that can be a bummer to folks coming from AZ who are trying to escape heat :)

Hm, I haven't even thought about crowds in late October. I was thinking of 10/29-11/1 for the Halloween trip. Do you know if the holiday decorations are throughout the park? I'm sure it's not to the full extent as the Christmas decorations.

They decorate more at Christmas for sure. The castle, Storybookland, Critter Country, New Orleans Square...all of those are done up at Christmas but not at Halloween. Of course Small World will have a holiday overlay at Christmas that it won't have at Halloween as well.

Halloween time is very nice but Christmas time is the clear winner. As magical as Disneyland is all year long it's at it's peak in December decorated to the hilt with magic.
