I am staying home alot over summer break with nothing to do...any lesser known Disney animated movies that should be watched...posting this topic in Live-Action too. Any movies that are a must watch post them...just watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit...that is a fantastic movie, and I wish it got more credit!

Depends what you're into. Are you more interested in the history of the studio, or just good movies that get overlooked?

"Who Framed Roger Rabbit" doesn't give us much to go on ... if you consider **that** one overlooked, then "Fun and Fancy Free" must be positively invisible!

I'd also suggest that if you're REALLY interested in animation, then there are MUCH better places to start than second-tier Disney stuff, but that's me.

5BR's, that reminds me of the reading lists English teachers would hand out this time of year when I was a kid.

(PSSSST! SHHH!

You might want to check out Song of the South on Youtube)

I'm glad you enjoyed RR. It is a Fantasmic film!

I agree with 5BR except add The Great Mouse Detective and drop Home on the Range

Definitely drop Home on the Range. SLAMMING it onto the floor would be preferable.

I reiterate what I said in the second post, and it stands for most of the above list. The first 6 are worth the time, and The Emperor's New Groove was way better than it should have been. And I would add "A Goofy Movie" and (believe it or not) "Tinker Bell."

But the others? Meh. They don't suck (except for HOTR), but there are better uses for your animation-watching time.

For some A-grade Disney that you may not have seen, may I suggest you check out some Disney shorts? I don't know what the availability status is at the moment, but the early Mickeys and the Silly Symphonies are 95% awesome. The rest? About 50%, and it gets old watching all the Sport Goofys one ... after ... the ... other ... but it's all classic Disney nevertheless.

What about other stuff? If you haven't seen the black-and-white Max Fleischer Popeye cartoons, you have missed out. Really - you have NO IDEA how great Popeye was before color and Paramount ruined him. I like the early Popeyes better than the Mickeys. (Lightning KSHOOOOOOMMM!! Owch.) Make sure it's the official Popeye box sets, with the solid-colored covers with black-and-white line drawings.

I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it until everybody listens: HAYAO MIYAZAKI! He's the Japanese equivalent of Disney, and every one of his movies is better than every one of the Disney movies on that list. Start with "Spirited Away" and "My Neighbor Totoro."

"Yellow Submarine" if you can get your hands on it. (Good luck.)

"Fritz the Cat" is great, but it's kind of X-rated.

Fairly recent flicks that are awesome and you gotta see: "Coraline," "Persepolis," "Dragon Hunters," "Azur and Asmar," and the greatly underrated "Surf's Up." "Kung Fu Panda" is great too, but you knew that, right?

And then there's THIS:
http://www.sitasingstheblues.com It's ... amazing. And can be downloaded online in High Definition free and legally.

For historical purposes, you could check out the mesmerizing silent movie "The Adventures of Prince Achmed," which is the oldest surviving animated feature, beating Snow White by several years.

"Tokyo Godfathers" - it's in Japanese with subtitles, but it's great.

And of course, "The Iron Giant." You HAVE to see "The Iron Giant." It's Brad Bird's other one.

I have a few others, but they're next to impossible to get your mitts on in the US, so I'll skip 'em.

If your going to watch shorts, please Watch "Der Fueher's Face"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...1qR3Xk3E

I'm warning you, its a WW2 Propaganda Film, But its noe of the most powerful shorts in Disney History.

Also, I enjoy Goofy's "The Art of Skiing" and any of the Goofy How To films

Now, mawnck... will look for Popeye, not interested in the anime movies from overseas, saw one and didn't care for it. Read Coraline, so I want to see the movie, Persepolis looks good it was nominated for an Oscar too, Dragon Hunters and Azur and Asmar I have never heard of, Kung Foo Panda and Surf's Up GOOD! Wow...you have got it all wrong, those were two of the Worst movies I have seen. THEY WERE SO SLOW! But the winner is either Happy Feet or Monsters vs. Aliens for worst animated movie!

Well thanks for responding everybody! Keep it coming!
