>> Disney's International Adventure. <<

I've mulled over various possible names for a park that would be sitting next to Disneyland since even before plans for DCA were unveiled to the public. I've often always come back to the word "world" being in at least one part of the title, such as "Disney's World." However, I'm fully aware that would clash with the other major DisCo property in the US, the one near Orlando, Florida.

But since the next big new addition to DCA will be "World of Color," maybe it should be located in a park named "World of Disney." One downside is that "WOC" -- meaning a 4-syllable name -- doesn't flow off the tongue easily or quickly. But it at least wouldn't evoke in me the image of a rinky-dinky, provincial park ("California"), one that's more Six-Flag-ish ("Adventure") than Disney.

>>World of Disney<<

That's pretty close to the super-sized Disney stores that exist in DtD and New York. Not to mention the confusion having such a similar-sounding name to Walt Disney World.

While I agree a name change is in order, the park doesn't yet feel nearly big enough to be a "world".

I agree with K2M as well. The park definitly should get a name change to reflect this VERY different DCA than what was presented back in 2001, but having 'world' in the title makes it sound bigger in the scope this park has. Now, take for example TDS, had that park had 'world' in its title orginally, it would be a no-brainer since the parks theme litterally takes us around the world on 4 seperate continents and a few fantasitical places such as Mysterious island and The Little Mermaid Lagoon as well.

DCA has a very small and limited scope. Even with the new changes, it hasnt pushed beyound that scope at all. 'World' implies something big, grand, universal, this park just doesnt represent those qualities.

I don't think "California" is going anywhere, folks.

Take a look at the concept art:

http://www.laughingplace.com/L...23-3.asp

The caption under Paradise Pier is: "California Seaside Amusement Parks." PP already exists, so there's no real need to explain it to the public, and is one of the few areas they could plausibly describe as being somewhere else along another coast... so if they were going to change the park to non-California, why describe it as "California" in the blue sky renderings?

Look at the caption for Buena Vista Street: "Early LOS ANGELES neighborhood." The new entrance that sets the stage is specific to Los Angeles.

Even CarsLand has a caption "Radiator Springs and Route 66." Route 66, of course, terminated (or began, depending on your direction of travel) in California.

Two other markings on that map: "Red Car Line" - the Red Cars were specific to Southern California - and it looks like they're renaming the performance corridor "El Camino Real" - the Royal Road of... yep... early California.

Looks to me like far from distancing themselves from a California theme, they're reinforcing it.

Which makes sense to me. There's far too much remaining original infrastructure that is CA-themed, and California is pretty much the only thing that could unify the park as a result. Plus, I never thought the problem was with the theme, but rather what they did with it. And despite too much tooning (a problem at all their parks now), I like the look of a lot of this stuff.

Whether they rename it or keep it the same, just PLEASE keep 'Disney's Imagination Park' as far away as possible. Annnything but that ;).

I agree in other concept art of the entry it is still "California Adventure" Perhaps Walt felt it was his California Adventure as he boarded the train leaving Kansas City.
I also noticed on page 11 enlarged that it describes the "state of the art waterplay area and a hidden stage for future events" I am thinking Summer Concert Series similar toFlorida's during the Flower and Garden Festival. Also on page 13:Paradise Garden Grill replaces Burger Invasion and Boardwalk Pasta and Pizza replaces Pizza OomMowMow instead of the Beer Garden. Still seems to be a lot of restaurants in the entire area.

I agree. If only because of the DIP acronym.

(BTW, I know a guy who works at the Pentagon who swears that the original name of "Operation Iraqi Freedom" was going to be "Operation Iraqi Liberation" until someone finally realized what the acronym would be. He's a right-winger and supported the invasion - initially - but tells me they were THISclose to rolling out the name "Operation Iraqi Liberation" until someone finally figured it out.)
