Topic: Beauty and the Beast: Outstanding in 3D!

1	DlandDug Sat 7/25/2009 8:26a	John Lasseter brought along an extended clip of Beauty and the Beast in Disney Digital 3D to show at San Diego Comic Con. I was frankly a bit worried, having seen "traditional" animated films in 3D. ("Working for Peanuts" with Donald Duck.) Lasseter actually assured the crowd that this would not be the "stacked layers" effect that one would expect in a ViewMaster. He then rolled out the entire opening number. Disney Digital 3D gave the sets depth, and "rounded out" the characters. There was also a brief clip showing a section of the ballroom scene. The crowd was gasping as the camera zoomed through the chandelier. (Of course, that part was computer animated to begin with.) But the characters work very well in the 3D system they are using. The kids were very excited-- they've never seen BnB on the big screen. Now they can't wait!
