If you would like to read their press release, go to:

http://www.nffc.org/

There is also a thread in the forum that has been addressing this issue.

Just curious, what are some of the other Clubs out there?

Here in the SoCalifornia area we also have a group called "Once Upon A Classic," There is also the 1313 Club (a fairly new entity). Both of these are locally focused.

There there is the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society, which is national, but seems to have most of its members here and in Florida and focuses on the steam train enthusiasts. (Carolwood Pacific was the train that ran in Walt's back yard)

Then less formally, web sites like LP, MousePlanet and MiceAge do hold occasional meets in the parks (one of them, I think MousePlanet) has a regular get together on Sundays or at least one Sunday a month - forgive me I don't know)

For former castmembers there is an alumni club.

That's about all I can think of.

And, of course, the newest and biggest on the block -- D23, which is the only official (Disney sponsored) club, although Disney is very appreciative of the other clubs by in large.

Well, I'm not a member of the NFFC, but I think this vote makes a lot of sense. I know Disneyana Fan Club wasn't a perfect name for reasons several posters here had articulated, but I think the name change makes it 1000% clearer what the club is all (or at least mostly) about.

And at the very least, it's a better name than D23.

I have no real issues with the name itself, 2oony. Although it was clear at the last convention the NFFC name means a lot to many people, and I'm hopeful they will consider that in the transition and not just drop it like a hot potato.

My problem is that the paying membership had no say in it, that they were not even given the courtesy of being told it was being considered. And when the ballots were sent, it was a take it or leave it proposition.

And even more than that, it appears that some of the members never even knew about the vote and never were sent a ballot. Because there was no period of public commment prior to the vote there was no time to make sure the membership knew this was going to happen. And then it turns out the board began this process two years ago, but never went public with it until votting time.

The vote itself only happened because the state of California demanded it. The board voted the name change in March, again, without saying anything to the membership afterward.

No matter the good intentions of some of the board, and there are some very good people, the way this was handled projects an undemocratic tone. Kind of like a home owners' association on steriods.
