>>>Snow White? Little Mermaid? Finding Nemo? Hel-loooo??<<<

all three overrated, but at least Snow White was a first.

However Akira, is genious and was really responsible for Manga finally breaking into popular culture in the west.

But there will always be bias in these things.

>>What I really don't get is the value of lists like this.<<

(1) Discussions like these.

(2) Heads up on stuff you may have missed and really ought to see.

:-)

>>Strongly agree that it is very lopsided toward newer films. Are 2 movies released *just this year* really worthy at this time to be included in the top 10 animated movies of "all time"?<<

+1 on the movies from this year (but especially Up). TK, which earlier flicks would you like to see on the list instead?

Little Mermaid, Nightmare Before Christmas, Finding Nemo, Snow White, Cinderella, 101 Dalmatians, Lady & the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, Howl's Moving Castle, Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Lilo & Stitch, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Toy Story 2, Tarzan, My Neighbor Totoro, Millennium Actress ... to name a few (and in no particular order).

Snow White and Fantasia are kind of inexplicable omissions; I'd substitute Finding Nemo for the somewhat overrated Incredibles, Toy Story 2 for Toy Story 1 (yeah, the first was a breakthrough, but the second is just plain better), and I'd put Yellow Submarine in there too.

And (though it might betray my own "seen it recently" bias), maybe Sita Sings the Blues.

Agree 100% w/ Dabob2. I very much like the Incredibles, but the writing is a bit weak at parts and falls flat. The pacing is off in some segments too. Finding Nemo is much, much better, IMO. Also agree w/ Toy Story 2 over Toy Story.

All but 5 of which are also recent. ;-)

Good choices, though.

>>Sita Sings the Blues<<

Far, far better than South Park. I love Sita Sings the Blues.

Depends on how you define recent ... :)

For example, "Little Mermaid" is 20 years old (!), not what I would call recent.

>>Depends on how you define recent<<

I was going with ECDC's "prior to 1985" (post 10).

Regardless, it appears we agree that Little Mermaid shoulda been there.
