STATEMENT FROM RICHARD W. COOK, CHAIRMAN, THE WALT DISNEY STUDIOS

I am stepping down from my role as chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, effective immediately.

I have loved every minute of my 38 years that I have worked at Disneyfrom the beginning as a ride operator on Disneyland's steam train and monorail to my position as chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. To wrap up my Disney experience in a neatly bundled statement is close to impossible. But what I will say is, during my time at the Studio, we have achieved many industry and Company milestones. Our talent roster is simply the best in the business. I believe our slate of upcoming motion pictures is the best in our history. But most of all, I love the people, my colleagues, my teammates, who are the most talented, dedicated and loyal folks in the world. I know that I leave the Studio in their exceptional hands.

I have been contemplating this for some time now and feel its the right time for me to move on to new adventures and in the words of one of my baseball heroes, Yogi Berra, If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

STATEMENT FROM ROBERT A. IGER, PRESIDENT AND CEO, THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY

Throughout his distinguished 38-year Disney career, Dick Cook's outstanding creative instincts and incomparable showmanship have truly enriched this company and significantly impacted Disneys great legacy, said Disney CEO Bob Iger. We thank Dick for his tremendous passion for Disney, and his many accomplishments and contributions to The Walt Disney Studios, including a very promising upcoming film slate. On behalf of everyone at Disney, we wish him the best with all the future has to offer.

I'm heartsick over this news. Dick Cook has always been a joy to work with. Under his leadership the D23 Expo presentations from the Studios division were amazing. Not just the Arena presentation but the Muppets and others. He could often be spotted walking the Expo floor talking with event guests. There was something about the way he was with Disney fans that reminded me of the tales I heard from Disney Studios in years past. I am so very sad about this news and terribly concerned about what this means for the future of the Disney Studios.

Does seem odd, timing-wise...

Will leemac's prognostication from earlier this summer come true?

Will Dr. Ed now take over for Dick Cook?

You don't resign 'immediately' if you are on good terms.

This is too bad as I like so much of what he's done, but lately he'd lost his golden touch and it was rumored that he was on the hot seat.

If this had been planned, it likely would have been announced at D23, not announced on Friday at 5pm.

There have been rumors of him being let go for some time now. Maybe they waited until after the D23 expo so it would not be a distraction.

I am sorry to see him go, especially after seeing him at the D23 expo last week. He is a true "Disney" person. I hope his replacement also has the same roots with the company.

If it's not Dr. Ed, my money is on Kevin Feige.
