Since the IOC is deciding on the host city for the 2016 games, what if Walt Disney World were to throw their hat into the ring for 2020? (Not that it would really happen)

What if all games where held at WDW, in/or around Orlando and the Florida coasts. Where could the Olympic venues be held? What new features or structures could be built at WDW to accomodate the Olympics?

First, a new Olympic Track and Field stadium at Wide World of Sports near the baseball facility.

Reconstruct River Country to be a man-made river rapids facility for kayaking. Keep it for a new Fort Wilderness river rafting venue.

Use Bay Lake and Seven Seas lagoon for rowing events.

Archery behind the UK Pavillion.

A wrestling venue behind Italy.

An archery venue behind UK.

Build a new Greece pavillion for Discus, Hammer throw, shotput and javelin.

Cirque facility for gymnastics?

piss on the Olympic Committee-- they do not deserve WDW or anywhere else.

Last place vote - really ? Are you kidding me ?

Well we've moved millions of jobs to Rio in the last 5-10 years- might as well let them have the Olympics also.

And Blair lobbies for London and they get 2012 summer games- Putin lobbies personally for Russia and they get 2014 winter games -- Obama lobbies and comes in last...

let's stop the nonsense about how we are viewed differently now - we obviously aren't.

This is not a hit from me on Obama - it's directed at those who want to put a halo on him ... he did a very good job IMHO getting together with his buddies here in Chicago and pitching this... in the end this is a much bigger statement.

a lot of bookies around the world making a lot of money today when the final choice is announced.. the odds on fave out.

What's wrong with Rio? I think it's time that South America *finally* gets to be a host country...

Safety would be my main concern. I travel to Brazil on biz - I can tell you there are many scary places there also.

I realize safety is an issue here also...

my concern is the message sent by us getting the least number of votes - that's more than a mild message.

of course much of the largest $$ bid for these games comes from the fact American companies have offshored so many jobs there- so I guess we deserve this to some extent.

if that is where companies choose to put their workers- then maybe the Olympics do belong there, and not here.

<< my concern is the message sent by us getting the least number of votes - that's more than a mild message. >>

I'm surprised that the Chicago political machine wasn't able to manipulate this vote to go their way. I mean, everyone knows the IOC is incredibly corrupt and susceptible to all sorts of bribes and favors. You would think that this would play entirely to the Chicago team's advantage?

Of course, South America has traditionally had the most corrupt governments in the Western Hemisphere, so maybe we were just out of our league when it came to buying off the IOC votes.

I doubt this had anything to do with Obama, but everything to do with which delegation paid for the most votes from IOC committe members. That's how the Olympics has worked for decades now.

I don't know how having the Olympics would go over in a tourist saturated town like Orlando.

While it's an interesting concept, I think it would be extremely dificult to pull off. Does Orlando even have a stadium capable of holding the opening, and closing ceremonies?

I'm sure they could handle most of the events in the area, but could you imagine the nightmare it would be for a normal family trying to go to WDW?

I would hate to see the prices for accomadations. It's scalp city anytime a major event like this is held in a city.

Hmmmm, I am not surprised Chicago lost, Atlanta was not that long ago. Frankly I was surprised we are geting it in 2012 since it was in Greece in 2000. I think Rio could be a great venue and help improve the city even more, just like Barcelona did.

As for WDW hosting it, they can't seem to run a decent transport system for the few on site, something like the Olympics would be even harder.
