I was at my local Disney Store, trying to get a set of 2009 Disney Dollars for my collection, and was told that as of October 4, the Disney Stores will no longer be selling them. Of the 3 stores in my area, none have any left, and will not be getting anymore in.

The Dollars will still be available in the parks but the stores will only be selling the gift cards. It's too bad, the Dollars were a guarenteed money maker for Disney. Many were purchased and never used. Like myself, many people bought them for collections. Now, the only way to get them will be to order them over the phone (and pay shipping) or pick them up at the parks. It looks like I'll only get them every few years.

BTW, older Dollars are really collectable, at a recent coin show, I saw some of the older bills on sale for $20-30.

I wonder if they were having a problem with theft, because, like you said, it was a guaranteed profit-maker.

I've seen older dollars listed for big bucks, but haven't run across any buyers who were actually paying that much.

I just bought some a month ago for our trip in December. Now I wish I would have bought more since they are going away. How sad!

I don't think the op says they are going away, but the Disney Store will no longer sell them...

Woman: Would you like to buy some Itchy and Scratchy Money?

Homer: What's that?

Woman: Well it's money that's made just for the park. It works just like regular money, but it's, er..."fun".

Bart: Do it, Dad.

Homer: Well, OK, if it's fun...let's see, uh...I'll take $1100 worth.

You're correct Rsey. The Dollars will still be available for purchase in the parks, but you won't be able to get them in the stores.
