The state of Florida is looking for some Federal $$$ to build a high speed railway from Tampa to Orlando, with Disney offering some free land for a station.
So says Meg Crofton:
"While many details are still yet to be worked out, we think this project makes sense for our community..."

Especially if it makes it easy for Tampa Airport travelers and Orlando Airport travelers.

What ever gets the guest in safer and can move more people. Sounds good.

Here's what I heard. The state of Florida wants big federal funds for high speed rail, but transport secretary Ray LaHood is telling Florida that it isn't getting any money unless they start busting their butts on getting their commuter rail project up and running.

http://www.bradenton.com/442/s...165.html

"First, anyone dreaming about Florida also landing a high-speed rail system should wake up. It’s not going to happen, LaHood said, unless Florida legislators first approve SunRail. That’s because officials in Washington plan to award the $8 billion set aside for developing high-speed rail systems to states or regions that already support passenger train service.

They don’t view Florida as one of them — unless its Legislature approves the 61-mile SunRail system, which would link Orlando and Tampa."

States like California already have robust train service serving some areas. Our own Prop 1A set aside a billion dollars for train service that would connect to the high speed rail. The point is to build good feeder routes to high speed rail. Florida is dropping the ball on that front.
