OMG, the Niagra Falls episode has gone way beyond the pale!

In a good way, mind you.

Holy Crap, they are now officially in Andy Kaufman territory, I was so totally uncomfortable even watching it, but it was so GREAT!

The art of comedic discomfort, Dada-ism, if you will...WOW.

Just, WOW.

Anyone else think so?

(I wish I could do this with spoilers, but it just has to be seen to be believed...they've been leading this way all season but, WOW)

See I thought the episode had a balance of the uncomfortable moments, slapstick moments, sweet moments and just downright funny lines.

It was very well done.

I guess the uncomfortable stuff all being in the front end got to me...the ending stuff was definitely sweet and cute and cool.

In any case, I agree DAR, it was a great episode to say the least!

I actually no longer enjoy the Office, after being a huge fan the past several years. Week in and week out of Michael Scott being so incredibly awkward is wearing me out. For a much better blend of slapstick, witty comedy and commentary, and awkward moments, check out 30 Rock.

The Office has no character development right now and no characters or story lines I feel invested in.

I liked that episode a lot, but if you really want the comedy of discomfort, pretty much ANY episode of the British version of The Office is a textbook example of that.

Funny Dabob2, I like the US version, the UK original, not so much.

I love the UK version myself, and always felt like you Dabob. The discomfort was just so awkward it was hilarious (that seems more a U.K. "brand" of humor anyway)...but this particular episode surpassed even the U.K. version for me.

<--HUGE fan of 30 Rock

I understand your point about how the show has lost something EC, but somehow I still enjoy it (Michael Scott the "practically retarded" does take things too far though).

30 Rock just never really did it for me.

Has anyone watched some of the new comedies that came out this year? Modern Family is pretty good, it's more cute that outright funny, but I like the characters. I saw the first episode of Cougar Town, pass. And everyone is talking up Community but I thought it was terrible.

Modern Family - too many stereotyped characters for me.

Cougar Town - ridiculous

Community - Zzzzzzzzzzzz!

I thought The Office was outstanding. Just the right mix of slapstick, outrageousness and sweetness. "Mental pictures" was a wonderful theme. Many laugh out loud moments.

I like both Brit and US versions of the Office. The US version is definitely sweeter, while the Brit relies more on the plain awfulness of Gervais' character (Michael Scott is awkward, but down deep he's a nice guy, which the Gervais character really isn't) and the comedy of discomfort.

The US version has had much more time to develop the secondary characters and even the tertiary ones - for instance Creed is never in it very much but he's so dang weird and twisted that his 2 or 3 lines each show invariably crack me up.
All times are Pacific Time (US)
