"Theaters will allow children to watch film clips of their own selection, participate in karaoke contests or chat live with Disney Channel stars via satellite. Computer chips embedded in packaging will activate hidden features. Walk by a “magic mirror” while holding a Princess tiara, for instance, and Cinderella might appear and say something to you.

It’s your birthday? With the push of a button, eight 13-foot-tall Lucite trees will crackle with video-projected fireworks and sound. There will be a scent component; if a clip from Disney’s coming “A Christmas Carol” is playing in the theater, the whole store might suddenly be made to smell like a Christmas tree."

This announcement has me doing backflips and cheering for the store line. If only they had done this before Children's Place destroyed the older stores, turning them into the upgraded 'Mickey' Stores.

These are absolutely amazing ideas and this couldn't be a smarter move for the stores. The stores are the closest thing that guests can get to when they can't afford trips to the parks, and this is a wonderful way to keep the guests coming back again and again.

I only wish this had been done earlier while I worked there. I'm bummed I won't have the chance to experience working there for all of this!

If only they had done this when I had a Disney Store within driving distance.

But it's like everything else Disney--it's always somewhere I'm not.

I've heard through the grapevine that they will be opening new stores up with this remodel...maybe they will reopen the one near you?

The problem I see with this is that it seems directed at the kids and ONLY the kids. It's been so long since I've wanted to buy much at a Disney Store. I used to shop there all the time.

Blecch.

Sounds like the same people who designed that suite in what used to be The Disney Gallery.

All that precious, sweetness makes me want to throw up.

Rather than worrying about pine-scented aromas, and interactive fireworks displays -- how about this novel idea...

Merchandise that people want to buy.

I hope they don't show any clips from "Bambi" featuring Flower the Skunk.

Why not make the stores like smaller Disneylands as far as merchandise goes?

I can buy jewelry at DL. Clothes, gifts, glassware, too. Kid's clothes, and a few trendy items (Not to be confused with Trend D). And toys!

That's how I remember the early days of The Disney Store. It was an eclectic mix of stuff, which made browsing fun. It didn't have a lot of any one thing, just a little of this, some of that, and very welcoming, friendly cast members. It felt like a little chunk of Disneyland in your own hometown.

I don't know why it has struggled so long to recapture that spirit, that simplicity.

I'm holding out hope for better merch too. I'm sure it will come.

But after working with among the older than god register's and disgusting carpet I'd be willing to spend more time (and money) in the stores with these upgrades.

But isn't that what a lot of Disney's stories are based on? lol. I think it's cute and makes me all misty eyed ;)
