>>However, these passes create whole new attendance patterns.<<

...and a right on LuLu right back atcha!

That was a point I was trying to make in post #39. The attendance patterns of the park have changed drastically in the past few years. If the discounted SoCal passports were intended to increase park attendance during non-peak times, then the current block-out days may not be reflective of current attendance patterns.

>>I think Disney should limit attendance by pricing / blocking out the APs right, not by turning people away when they get to the gate. That would make for very unhappy customers... er, "guests."<<

...another right on! I've been in line at the turnstiles and have watched this happen, where guests who just bought tickets at the ticket booths, were turned away because the park was beyond capacity. They were offered rain checks instead of refunds. I found myself questioning why the ticket booth CM didn't advise them that the park was full before they purchased. Yes, these guests were not very pleased. Like you said, with AP's and more current attendance pattern appropriate block out days, the chance being turned away at the gate would be greatly reduced.

This particular issue points more toward sloppy operations than a problem with the AP program per se. The solution to the above particular problem is better coordination between ticket sales and what happens at the turnstiles, not changing the way APs are sold.

Agreed, the only reason I mentioned it was to illustrate that overcapacity conditions, where AP attendance was most likely a major contributor, affect both AP's and "paying" guests. On that particular day, the only guests allowed in the park were PAP's. guests of the resort hotels and returning guests with a hand-stamp. Lulu has a very valid point about how being turned away at the gate would be more upsetting than being blocked out.

So has anyone been to Disneyland any time recently when it wasn't VERY crowded??

For me, it's been years since I have been to DL without fighting massive crowds - and that probably works out to be 50+ separate days at DL (weekdays, weekends, off-season, peak-season, etc.). Either I am very unlucky or the crowds are terrible almost all of the time.

Honestly, I am getting sick of it.

Honestly, why doesn’t the ticket booth operators tell the paying customer “oh im sorry but I can’t sell you a ticket today because we are over capacity”…..instead of having customer shell out how ever much it takes for his or her’s family to go to Disneyland and then being turned away at the gates ..

And I vote yes in raising the AP prices. I think Disneyland and Disneyworld, are just trying to stay afloat with the economy!

I also think it be good if they had only the deluxe pass and the premium pass (for those that can afford it) and do away with the so-cal pass. All the AP’s, other then premium, have an option to add parking, an additional $50 dollars or something like that. So if you add up the parking, the pass fee most of them do equal to or about the premium price...

LOVE-DCA, welcome to the boards. I love the DCA too!

The gist of the matter is that Disney does see a finacial benefit in keeping the parks full. Until the overcrowding and dissatisfaction actual creates a loss of revenue or a potential loss of future revenues, Disney has no real incentive to change a formula that works. I do have to wonder how much being able to add parking to the lessor passports has contributed to the much higher capacity crowds. The higher capacity crowds seemed to become much more frequent after that AP option was available.

Awww! Thanks Shiva! I just love DCA, Best Park ever other then DL! I had met a couple on the tram the other day at DL and they told me about this website.

So I guess im split in half when it comes to discussions about AP’s. I have premium (im spoiled! ), just renewed this year in October for my 30th b-day and so I know that not everyone in the world can afford a AP like the Premium. But they can afford to get there whole family any of the lessor AP’s, and of course factor in that three of the 4 AP’s that Disney offers have black out dates. But I think I agree that most of DL and DCA’s attendance is due to the AP’s. When I go on Saturday’s I see soooooo many AP holders, a lot of them have the premium (it’s the only way to fly!)

..and with the monthly payment plan having a AP is really affordable for most families these days so I actually haven’t seen a increase in the crowds even in this economy! Or maybe im just blind…. LoL

I do think though that the families that can’t afford AP’s should just not buy them at all. Not even do a monthly payment plan. Because if you can’t afford it, then you can’t afford it, and you should just like the rest of the population and go once a month and spend the $72 or what it costs to get in, plus parking, and food and stupid light up things for little jr. and make it a special time to go!

I can tell you this for sure - if I had just purchased tickets for my family, and then a few feet away was told that I couldn't get in to the park today, you can bet I'd be back at the ticket booth angrily getting my money back! Completely unacceptable to seel tickets to a park that's currently closed!
