Anybody care to speculate on the accuracy of Al Lutz's speculation that Starbucks could be coming to Main Street USA? Anybody know anything about it that they'd like to share?

It's in Al's 10/13/09 column on miceage.com, entitled "Hello George & Starbucks." To be strictly accurate, he doesn't say that Starbucks is definitely coming, but that talks are ongoing. He also doesn't give a timeframe for when this might all happen.

Well given that Starbucks opened in Disneyland Paris this summer under Special K's watch, it is certainly possible.

It seems like a marriage made in heaven if you ask me. Disneyland's corporate sponsorships seem to have diminished over the past couple of decades or so. I can remember a time when it seemed that half the park had some kind of corporate tie-in.

As much as I loathe Starbucks in general, since they don't speak English there (meaning if I order a large black coffee they have to repeat it back to me in Starbuckian), corporate sponsorships have always inhabited Disneyland.

I enjoy getting coffee at Ghiradelli's at Downtown Disney and would likely grab a Starbuck inside the park...depending on what they charge.

But think of the Starbuckian/Disneytopian possibilities!

For the most part, I've always enjoyed the corporate sponsors in the Park.

Monsanto, Good-Year, General Electric, GAF, Pendleton Woolens, Hills Brothers Coffee, Frito-Lay, Kodak, Wonder Bread, Del Monte, FedEx, Duracell, Stouffers..so many more over the years.

And in some ways, Starbucks as a sponsor, isn't that much different than Coca-Cola.

The only recent sponsorship that didn't quite work in my opinion, was McDonalds -- to me Disney has a better brand than McDonalds, and it always felt like McDonalds cheapened the in-Park experience.

Probably weird, but there it is.

I'd buy some of those drinks, Kar2oonMan!

The only sponsorships that bugged me was Kodak because I hated those darn "picture spots" all over the park. The signs were really intrusive.
