Let's start a new week and a new month with a fun game.

It's called 'is anything new coming to WDW in 2010?' Anything at all?

(is that the sound of pins dropping?)

We all know that IOA will debut the WWoHP next year.

But when asked by a friend today as to what -- if anything -- was coming to WDW in 2010, I admit I was totally baffled.

I can't think of one new attraction, major or minor ... I can't think of any new parades, shows or pyro spectaculars ... I can't think of anything at all even including dining locales and timeshares (which actually count to some of the more deluded fanbois).

Am I missing something? Forgetting something?

What is WDW going to be marketing in 2010? Endless discounting?

I am sure WDW will get more price hikes, with an even greater reduction in service. But then again, that's not new.

I am sure there will still be some rubbish promo that still would not convince me to part with my money in the swamplands of Florida. Although isn't Space coming out of refurb (though big refurbs used to a regular occurance)

To be fair however, there was quite a bit this year (even if not to my interest):

The hot air balloon idea - transported from Paris
Villas at DAK, the Contemporary and the Treehouses
The South American restaurant and Dino restaurant in DTD
The farcical Lady Diana exhibit in DTD
Teppan Edo - was that this year (refurb really)
American Idol, TSM (which santa is saving us a fortune by bringing the Wii game to the UK - much cheaper and easier than a 10 hour flight to the swamps), and Luxo at DHS.

New Innoventions exhibits including the copy of the design your own coaster and ride a kuka arm (an attraction that has been at Futuroscope in France for 5 years)

Yak and Yeti in DAK

But we won't talk about all the magical closures and reduction in pyro and F! showings.

<<Ever the optimist...

C'mon, Trippy ... you know I consider myself a realist. And I really had the above exchange with a friend today ... I couldn't believe that there was not one thing I could come up with.

I thought I must be missing some small item at least. But it sure doesn't look that way.

But I also thought this would be a good time for a Spirited thread since it's been quiet here (except for some fanbois from another site tossing their less than magical bile at each other here) ... and since I work four of the next five days, I figure this can cure and will see what happens.:-)

Now ... did I miss something?

<<I am sure WDW will get more price hikes, with an even greater reduction in service. But then again, that's not new.>>

Hell, no. That's almost a decade old ... maybe longer in some areas.

<<I am sure there will still be some rubbish promo that still would not convince me to part with my money in the swamplands of Florida.>>

We don't have swamplands much. They were paved over with now empty and desolate strip centers and malls ... and fancy subdivisions where McMansions built in 2006-08 with pricetags of $750,000 and up sit empty with tumbleweeds blowing through at prices less than half that.

(Oh, BTW, interesting Spirited aside on our great economy ... found out that we have squatters here in our lovely gated, upscale -- at onetime quite affluent -- community. I say more power to them. I'd rather someone be in the home, than out on the streets with it falling into disrepair. And they're paying all their bills ... all except the mortgage!)

***Spirited aside over, back to regularly scheduled post***

<<Although isn't Space coming out of refurb (though big refurbs used to a regular occurance)>>

That's supposed to be happening this month (have a feeling it may not) but it doesn't count. Rehabs are not cause for excitement as I am fond of telling impressionable young fanbois who get bulges in their nether-regions when they see a building getting painted at the MK!)

<<To be fair however, there was quite a bit this year (even if not to my interest):

The hot air balloon idea - transported from Paris>>

I'd like to do it in Paris. Had no time last month. Does nothing for me in the Lightning Capital of the World.

<<Villas at DAK, the Contemporary and the Treehouses>>

Timeshares don't count. And I worry some folks might be very bored with no construction pictures to take daily!

<<The South American restaurant and Dino restaurant in DTD>>

Neither are cause for celebration, Dave.

And I asked about 2010. T-Rex opened in '08 ... Paradiso in mid-09.

C'mon, you wanna play the game, you gotta stick to the rules ... COMMIE!!!

<<The farcical Lady Diana exhibit in DTD>>

Not interested. I buy my own dresses.

<<Teppan Edo - was that this year (refurb really)>>

You are really going back ... that was 2007!

<<American Idol, TSM (which santa is saving us a fortune by bringing the Wii game to the UK - much cheaper and easier than a 10 hour flight to the swamps), and Luxo at DHS.>>

TSMM debuted in 2008. Idol in early 2009.

Luxo isn't an attraction, per se. And I have yet to hear of anyone actually seeing him working, except one person who lives at the parks.

<<New Innoventions exhibits including the copy of the design your own coaster and ride a kuka arm (an attraction that has been at Futuroscope in France for 5 years)>>

That was recently. It's also very small scale and frankly reminds me of the design your own coaster from DQ.

<<Yak and Yeti in DAK>>

That was a 2007 opening.

<<But we won't talk about all the magical closures and reduction in pyro and F! showings.>>

Well, we can if you'd like ... I'm bored with what's going on here and looking to stimulate some discussion without bringing up refillable mugs (oh, Nikki, dear ...) ... pintrading (Oh, sucky CM, dear ...) or Sarah Palin (Oh, old man Pierce ... uhm ...ah ... dude!) :-)

C'mon ... there must be something happening in 2010 at WDW.

Maybe they have a new marketing slogan 'Even with all our magical discounts, our parks are gonna be dead in 2010?'

Well, thanks for showing me I have been right in not wasting my money in Florida. If some of those things are 2 years old now (see how bored I am of WDW, I stopped watching it like a hawk, it was too painful.

But it is a sad state of affairs. People are getting excited about the possible return of Eo again in DL, and all the attractions on the slate (no matter how impressive the tech of WOC or Mermaid is, toons now bore me to tears and we now have 20 somethings than now think Disney is only about toons, so I do not see this turning around soon.

I am still trying to get a new hobby, but I keep getting sucked back in by the drug that is Disney. I want to see it get better, though Iger has made me lose a lot of hope (though the new Cruise Ship, HKDL expansion, Steve Davison's enthusiastic pitch for WOC and even DVC Hawaii show me they can still do it - but none of that is in the rube trap that is WDW).

74, you already started this same pointless, idiotic argument at WDWMagic.

Button your lip and get a life, you ever-lasting pessimist!

And that goes for you too, Davewasbaloo.

I love how this thread has 7 posts here and upwards of 45 at 30 at WDWMagic. :-)

However....I'm thinking next year is a quite year. As Martin said over in Magicland, we will be getting some more annoucements...ANd ones reggarding the 40th. Something that gets me excited, to be honest with you. (Not bulge worthy, Spirit, let's direct our attention else where. ;) :D )

The 40th, while not being as big as it once was, could still be a unique opportunity for the parks. While I don't think we will be getting 4 E-tics, like we once were, I do think some smaller things will get the greenlight. Maybe Soarin'. Maybe SSE, even. Anything and everything is marketable, and since these "Anniversaries" are just big marketing ploys, I think that these things COULD be marketed. AKA...There will be pins and promos.

But that's in 2011...Starting in 2010.

In the meantime..? No idea. I guess SM Clean will be the new draw.
