| TP2000 Mon 5/30/2011 2:42p | Al Lutz has a blurb up today on his site saying that the Mission Tortilla Factory at DCA is shutting down without notice this week, and that the building will be turned in to a Ghirardelli chocolate factory instead.
Um..... GREAT NEWS!
That silly little tortilla factory thing grew on me over the years, but if I can go in and get a free sample of chocolate and then sidle up to the soda fountain bar for a Gold Rush Sundae instead of being handed a dry tortilla from a bored factory worker, I will be one very happy camper!
How odd that Disney wouldn't announce the closure of the tortilla factory in advance. Maybe George K knows it was one of those things that people made fun of mercilessly during DCA's early years and he just wants it gone without mention? |

I was recently watching some old film taken at the 1915 World's Fair in San Francisco (avail. from Netflix) and there was a Ghirardelli chocolate shop in it. |

Al mentions that the building will be redesigned to resemble the old Ghiriadelli factory in San Francisco (which is now a condo complex). How many different random places can they make reference to San Francisco in DCA without actually having a fully themed San Francisco section? Note that the bread tour is hosted by Boudin, which is another San Francisco original. |

Although...chocolate.... hmmm.. |
