| oc_dean Wed 11/30/2011 7:41p | Well ... I find it quite interesting to find out that Universal Studios has made this announcement:
http://online.wsj.com/article/...140.html
They are doing this AHEAD of the Transformers attraction .. which is still under construction, and not to set to open till Spring 2012.
In earlier decades, it was normal practice for Walt to announce new attractions ahead of those still under construction.
Disney of today has tapered off from announcing new attractions ahead, in the game.
As The Walt Disney Co. is very much a business 'reactionary' to competition (Look to WDW's recent history to Uni Florida, for proof, like Disney signing a contract with Cameron/Avatar, to Uni's contract with JK Rowling/Potter) ...........
Is it possible, this could put Disney in the position to make an announcement for Disneyland's next major attraction, to try to deflate Universal's big announcement for a clone of the Harry Potter land in Universal Florida?
We know Disney is being extremely tight lipped on anything beyond Carsland opening mid next year.
They have said nothing about a rumored REVAMP of TOMORROWLAND. They have said nothing on EXPANDING FRONTIERLAND beyond the berm.
Those are the two big KAHUNAS to pay attention to. (One, or the other)
I'm not sure .... but I got a feeling this announcement for a Harry Potter addition to Uni Hollywood .... will accelerate Disney into announcing Disneyland's next MAJOR project sooner than later.
What do you think?????

| oc_dean Wed 11/30/2011 8:02p | Some are saying Potter in Hollywood would open in 2014, at earliest.
Mermaid, WoC, Carsland won't be so NEW when Potter opens in 2014/or later.
So .. if Disney wants something to go head-to-head with something the year Potter opens .... then it's near time to mention what that will be.

| Manfried Wed 11/30/2011 8:05p | Disney will probably announce something soon, but they've spent an awful lot of money recently. |

| oc_dean Wed 11/30/2011 8:12p | There's no money spent in rides that won't commence construction for a long time, anyway. |

First of all, Universal has made no announcements. This is a speculative piece in the WSJ.
Disney has made any number of announcements in recent years well in advance of construction. Carsland was announced before the first piece of asphalt was pried out of the old parking lot.
Disney hasn't been exclusively "reactive" in recent years-- some announcements have been made before the appearance of WWoHP, and some after.
The massive effort to remake DCA has pretty much consumed Disney's west coast resort for years. It is unlikely we will be seeing anything major for a while.
But... you never know! |

| ni_teach Thu 12/1/2011 7:47a | The LA Times today (12/1) says that Potter will be coming to Universal Hollywood.
I'm not shocked by this. From what I have heard and read it's a great attraction and they might as well bring it to the West Coast. It will be a good follow up to the transformer attraction opening this coming year. |

| FerretAfros Thu 12/1/2011 7:57a | I thought there was some sort of contractual agreement limiting the Potter stuff to the Orlando resort. It seems that they've either renegociated, or that it was just a rumour in the first place. |

| Ohana Thu 12/1/2011 8:26a | This is GREAT news. Now USH may be cool finally. There might be a reason to visit more than once in a blue moon. I'm excited! It also on a side note means DL will have a little bit more competition so they will stay in the hunt with new growth too. |

"A remaining question is where the Potter rides and shops would be placed at the land-strapped Universal Hollywood. In order to make room, the park would likely have to remove or retrofit existing rides."
