We always stopped about 4 hours from our destination in Georgia, relaxed, swam at our hotel, then woke up early to drive the rest of the way to Florida. We stayed in Daytona. Drove to Orlando to WDW one year.
Oddly enough, I barely remember being at WDW. And we went two days. I think we went to Epcot and Magic Kingdom. I do remember being in line for Space Mountain and my mom and brother chickened out at the last chicken out point in line leaving me and my dad alone. lol |

Personally, I love a road trip, but I don't like exhausting myself in the process. I'll look at it here as if I had left from NJ. I would have made a stop somewhere around Walterboro, SC and then go the rest of the way to WDW the next day.
I felt that doing it that way, I wasn't beat when I got there and could get set up and acclimated before I ever went to the parks.
I realize that many cannot do it that way and have to hit the parks as soon as they arrive and that's OK if that is your thing. WDW is a big place and it requires energy to traverse it. I would rather wait and get recharged before taking on that task. It makes it seem more like a vacation to me.
Just guessing here because I don't remember but I'm guessing that it is 900 to 1000 miles from NJ to WDW and around 600 from NJ to the Walterboro area. I don't know what part of NJ you are leaving from but having to go through Baltimore and D.C. will make that about a 12 hours trip to the first stop.
Depending on the times that you get there Jacksonville and Orlando can be pretty slow moving as well. |

Then drive into WDW with only 4 hrs left of driving. We would bring books, coloring books and card games for the kids. My youngest at the time was 3, he slept alot. The 3 other kids had a portable DVD player and watched movies. It worked. We did have fun seeing all the sites as well.

We usually push it and stop once for a 6 hours sleep and then keep on going. I guess it depends on how quickly you want to get there and how much time you have. Make sure to take turns driving. |

I'll usually stop somewhere inside the state of Florida, leaving only a 4 or 5 hour drive the next morning. That way I can check in and then go right to the parks, which are the whole reason for the trip anyway!
