Thanks to a business meeting that my wife is going to in the LA area we're getting an unexpected trip to Disneyland in early March. My daughter and I will have a day together on Monday and then we'll go back on Tuesday with my wife and my mom.

This will be my daughter's second trip and it's going to be a blast following her lead for the day. She's finally tall enough for Indy and Screamin' and knowing her she's going to love it. And, like me, she doesn't want to take too much time out for a sit down meal. My wife insists on actually sitting down to eat. I don't know what that's all about.

Then the next day my daughter and wife will run around while I spend time with my mom walking around and looking at DCA (which she's never seen) and going on the gentler rides and the classics over at DL. My mom was at Disneyland on 7/17/55 thanks to her father's job as an editor at the Independent Press-Telegram, and went at least every two years from then until probably 1980 or so. She hasn't been there since 1996.

I usually have a plan of what I want to do and see, but this time it's just going to be about following the lead of a very energetic and thrill-seeking 7 year old one day and a much less energetic 77 year old the next.

It's going to be fun looking at the resort through their eyes.

Oh, and my kid doesn't know yet. Not sure when I am going to tell her. Part of me wants to see how close I can get to Mickey & Friends before she notices where we are.

Go to the Toy Story lot and your surprise might last a tad longer.

Our grandson is 7 and tall enough for all the rides now. We were lucky enough to let him take the lead in December. You are going to have a BLAST I envy you! Actually after a couple of days with him we really enjoyed a slower pace the next day. Going into The Blue Sky Cellar, checking out the new restaurants in DCA, a little shopping in DTD, etc. You will have the best of both worlds this trip :)

I'd love to know your mother's memories of 7/17/55. Did she see Walt? . . .

That sounds like a perfect trip TomSawyer. I can't wait to go with some people (particlularly children) when they are experiencing attractions for the first time.
