On the date of Disney California Adventure's 8th anniversary Disney has announced the new park will have eight lands when the expansion is complete this summer:
- “a bug’s land”
- Buena Vista Street
- Cars Land
- Condor Flats
- Grizzly Peak
- Hollywood Land
- Pacific Wharf
- Paradise Pier

Things are just sort of tossed in there with very little thought or transition or sense of place. |

| FerretAfros Wed 2/8/2012 8:53p | What happened to calling them 'districts'? I thought it was a better way to distinguish between the parks. I'm sure it was one of those formalities that never caught on with the parkgoing public, but I like it. Then again, it seems like the recent push has been to homogonize the parks, so why not? (and always referring to Downtown Disney as "the Downtown Disney district" probably adds to the confusion)
We knew that we were losing the Bountiful Valley Farm to Carsland (and partially to a bug's land), but what about the Golden Vine Winery? It was originally part of the vague Golden State, with several smaller districts within it, but it now seems to be orphaned. It barely shows up on the map, so I guess they don't really need to give it an official location, but it does seem a little sad.

Which has arguably been one of the park's problems since opening. The artist's drawing (which appears to be a compilation of various pieces of concept art and the regular park map, adjusted to look like nighttime, and collaged together) does nothing to help this at all. While the old park circulation had some issues (HBP to FFF), the new one just seems functional, but not very thematically wise. Instead of having routes you can go down to discover a land, you'll be circulating on one of several loops (around GRR, BVS to HPB to FFF, FFF to Carsland to Wharf, around PP) that take you past a bunch of stuff. There will be a lot more detail than before, but I still fear that it will feel like a hallway rather than a dead end.
Adventureland and Frontierland/Liberty Square in MK really have this problem, but I had hoped that it would be an isolated incident. Given how FFF feels now, it seems that a lot of the park will seem like a thoroughfare. Hopefully it won't be as bad as I'm picturing it, but I think it will likely be worse than it used to be. |

It does not seem these issues will ever be addressed. The basic '2001' layout is here to stay ... isn't it? |

| oc_dean Wed 2/8/2012 9:21p | Another gripe is the orientation of some of DCA's icons .. such as the Grizzly Peek face, facing south to Paradise Pier ... rather than to the north ... to people making their way into the park. |

I know many people don't appreciate it, but it's the one area of the park that embraces both sides of my son's heritage, aviation and car culture. It's also the only part of DCA that makes me feel nostalgic. If you never noticed anything to do with car culture in CF, go into the gift shop and look up. Suspended from the ceiling is a belly tank lakester. A lakester is a type of race car, usually home built, specifically made for land speed racing out in the California desert and the salt flats in Utah. The type on display in the shop was popular after World War II as military surplus made airplane parts available and garage innovators turned aircraft belly tanks into racecars. |

| Schmitty Good Vibes Thu 2/9/2012 12:27p | I'm with you Deb. The Belly tank racer was one of the details I noticed on my first trip to DCA the year it opened. I thought "How cool is that?". But I saw other stuff in DCA and wondered why there was such inconsistancy in the park that had nothing to do with bugets. |

Well, they've got to "officially" designate it as somewhere, if only to list the restaurant (and whatever becomes of the BSC) on the park maps/guides. My guess is they'll consider it park of Grizzly Peak. It's right up next to it, and certainly there are wineries up near NoCal rivers. |
