This is the year we want to see the taping of the Christmas parade. About when do they usually tape - the first Sat in December? And do we have to register to see the parade? I read somewhere you have to register and to register you have to be a cast member/family or an annual pass holder - any truth to that? Thanks everyone!

They do some of the taping of the musical acts on the weekend, but most of it is during 2-3 weekdays, since the crowds are much more manageable for the long shots up Main Street.

You don't need to register to be in the crowd; just show up and bring your patience!

AS I recall, I think they even did some of the filming in November last year.

I also believe some of the taping occurs in November.

The taping is usually done in early November, before the Christmas tree goes up in Town Square. The parade portion is usually done on a Saturday morning, with some musical acts done on Main Street during the parade taping and some at the Castle. They may also tape material on Sunday and Monday. Some stuff can even be done weeks later. For example, several weeks after the primary filming for the 2012 show, I ran into them filming Sophie Grace and Rosie. And, the Brad Paisley performance in Cars Land was done even later.

Start checking the fan sites in the fall, as the company that supplies the large group of girl dancers puts out info on their site on the filming dates and people usually post it on the fan sites. (I can't remember the name of that company at the moment. I'm sure somebody knows.)

Regarding having to register, for the WDW tapings, you do have to register. But, not for Disneyland. Anyone can show up and watch, although you generally need to get there very early to secure a spot, as a lot of the families of the dance group, which is very large, take up a lot of the spots along Main Street.

All times are Pacific Time (US)
