This reminds me of a Business Class Lounge at an airport. It looks contemporary, but in an overly safe and bland and corporate way. This design isn't daring and it's not exciting or memorable.

Since the food isn't that exciting or memorable either, if my last visit to California Grill a few years ago is any indication, why even bother?

Weird isn't it? It looks very uninspiring. Generic.

Bob Puccini's group did the Remy on DCL and did a great job which is why they are still getting restaurant assignments.

It is hard to compete with the view but the color choice seems to reflect the golden sunsets. I am trying to remember what it was like to enter the restaurant. The hardest sensation to overcome in the entire Contemporary is the overwhelming feeling of solid concrete. But I love it no matter.

I agree that it just looks very safe. Not that all designs need to be bold and daring (particularly in a space that hosts mostly adult groups who want to talk to eachother and has a great view), but this really just looks shockingly plain. It's not bad, but it certainly isn't enough to get me out of a theme park for an expensive dinner.

And in all fairness, the old design also had the airport lounge aesthetic (just from a different decade).

So what exactly is it that makes this the "California" Grill? Not the theme; the food seems to be fairly generic; not the view. I just don't get it.

Oh dear. Someone please let the folks who designed the dining rooms on the Disney Cruise ships design this restaurant.
