4	abu233 Tue 5/7/2002 2:01p	While we are on the subject, Disney is planning a very big surpise for Roger Rabbit. Here what my friend found out from Jerry Beck at Cartoon Research.com who is working on the special edition DVD. I sent Jerry Beck an e-mail, where I asked: * will it be made in anamorpic widescreen? *will it include the R.R. shorts Tummy Trouble, Roller Coaster Rabbit, and Trail Mix-Up, and maybe info about the canselled R.R. shorts? *will it include all deleted scenes, and will it be free of a altered frames? The answer I got was: "I'm under contract NOT to say anything about the contents. All I will say is that it is planned to be the ultimate bells & whistles release of this film. Read into that what you will.

7	Dis-Philip Wed 5/8/2002 5:21p	Let's hope that THESE upcoming "Roger Rabbit" events spell the long-awaited end of the Disney/Dreamworks feud. That way, Roger can finally make an actual comeback and star in new movies and shorts...and recieve actual guest bits on "House of Mouse"!
8	JeffG Wed 5/8/2002 6:02p	Since nobody knew the answer to the question that I asked above, I decided to call the theater myself. They confirmed that there will be a panel discussion with members of the crew/cast of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" at the 7pm showing on Friday, May 17th. At this time, the person on the phone didn't have any specifics about who would be there. Currently, tickets for that showing are still available. Yes, I went and ordered some before posting this... :) -Jeff
9	abu233 Thu 5/9/2002 6:53a	A new Pixar animated shorts will show in front of the film, "Mike's New Car". This short features the characters from Disney/Pixar's "Monster INC".
10	JeffG Sat 5/18/2002 12:01a	We went to the first showing of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" at the El Capitan this evening, which did include a panel discussion. It was an interesting and enjoyable discussion, although surprisingly under-attended. I definitely think that they would have had a much larger turn-out, had they actually advertised this a bit. The panel discussion was moderated by animation historian Charles Solomon and featured Don Hahn (associate producer), Charles Fleischer (voice of Roger) and animators Andreas Deja, Tom Sito, and one other animator whose last name I unfortunately missed (his first name was Nick). The discussion lasted about 35 minutes or so and covered quite a few interesting details about the making of the film. The animators talked quite a bit about their favorite scenes, the complexities of matching the animation to live action, and about their feelings regarding working with such a wide range of classic characters. Fleischer primarily shared some stories about the complexities of voicing an animated character that was playing opposite live action perforers. Finally, Don Hahn spent some time discussing the difficulties getting the project into production and negotiating the rights to use all the characters from different studios. He also talked some about how thrilling it was for them to work with such legendary voice performers as Mel Blanc and Mae Questel. Most of the past panel discussions at the El Capitan have been shorter and seemed more rushed than this one. I was pleased that they were given the time needed to give a nice overview of the project. The discussion included a good mix of talented members of the production team and they all seemed to have a good rapport with one another. It all made for a facinating session. It was also great fun seeing the film on the big screen once again. It doesn't quite look as revolutionary as it did when it first came out, but the accomplished visuals still blend well with a very strong, well-written story to make for a very effective film. The panel talked a bit about this being sort of one of the last really complex film made with older, pre-CGI techniques. I'm sure if the film had been made today, it would have had fewer flaws, but I kind of wonder if it might have also lost some of its charm. As always, the El Capitan did a fine job with the presentation of the film, although I do wish they would have struck a new print for this presentation. The print that was used wasn't in bad condition (particularly for the age of the film), but it was still noticibly faded with a fair amount of dirt along with occasional splices. I was a little disappointed that they didn't strike a fresh print, perhaps even utilizing the digitially-remastered soundtrack from the DVD release. As previously noted, the film runs through the 27th at the El Capitan. If you have the opportunity, I would definitely recommend getting out to see this film on the big screen again. -Jeff
