"How I Paid for College" by Marc Acito.

| Santa Monica Mon 11/29/2004 7:21p | I was reading Abarat: Days of Magic Nights of War, but it has since put me to sleep.
So now I'm reading Book the Second of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Why are the adults so darn stupid??? |

| Santa Monica Mon 11/29/2004 7:25p | <<Digital Fortress by Dan Brown. It's pretty good not as good as Da Vinci Code or Angels and Demons. In fact I just finished both of those a few weeks ago.>>
I found Digital Fortress and fast and fun read, but at the end, I couldn't help but think that all that happened wasn't worth it. I guess I'm saying it didn't have much of a payoff.
And I thought Deception Point was pretty boring. Maybe it just wasn't as gripping and fast as the other books. But there's this one moment near the end that makes it somewhat worth it.
Angels & Demons was my favorite Dan Brown book.
I hope his next book breaks away from his formula, because his books are all the same. |

| pipanale Tue 11/30/2004 9:11a | I was thinking of starting this up today...maybe I should visit more often.
I'm reading another of my odd disaster books. It's called Dark Tide. I only started it last night. The brief story: a 2 million gallon tank of molasses blows up/collapses in Boston in 1919 or so. Sounds like a mess and a half.
On the disaster front: check out Ship Ablaze. It's about the General Slocum fire...the 2nd biggest disaster/accident/loss of life event in NYC history.
There's the old stand-by The Ship in the Storm.
I have to get my hands on Triangle: The Fire that Changed America. It's about the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire in NYC.
My mother and I have a thing for disaster books. They always show that poor management and planning = bad things.
Plus, I just read Red Zone. It's by Mike Lupica. It's a sequel/continuation of Bump and Run. It's a very funny book about a prodigal son-type who takes over the family business...a pro football team. Related to it is the book Full Court Press (read it) and Wild Pitch (haven't read).
Than, I'm planning to read John McCain's book and No Ordinary Time by Doris Kearns Goodwin about the Roosevelts.
However, that sll gets put on hold because A Salty Piece of Land by one Jimmy Buffett drops today.
Woohoo! |

| TiggerPooh1973 Tue 11/30/2004 11:42a | I just started The Blood Canticle by Anne Rice. It's alright so far, this is actually one of the few books where I have actually skipped whole paragraphs. If any of you follow the Vampire Chronicles read ahead.....but there are SPOILERS
SPOILERS ARE COMING!!
OK.....there are a few of the other Vampire Chronicles that I have just never been able to get into, Memnoch the Devil was one, Armand was another. Rice just didn't come through on these in my opinion. But I read the one right before this, Blackwood Farm, and I really liked it, so I figured I would try this one since it involves the same characters. It starts with Lestat ranting on about wanting to become.....get this.....a SAINT! So interspersed throughout the story are these rants about sainthood. I just skip right by them. The other story, what is going on with Quinn Blackwood and the new vampire Mona Mayfair is holding my interest so far. Let's see if I can actually finish this one. |
