However, I have to say that I could have gone the rest of my life without knowing so much.....about John Daly. It's become a big joke at our house that every time JD is playing on television,my husband hollers, "Hey, here's John Daly. Come watch!" The book as a whole is a scream. |

Hahaha...I have never read a book like this before. It usually doesn't take me this long and I NEVER read two at one time. |

| pipanale Mon 4/19/2004 12:52p | Who's Your Caddy was funny. I finished it like 2 weeks ago.
I'm also into disaster books. Into Thin Air, The Ship in the Storm, anything on the Shackleford Expedition. I have a book on the General Slocum that my mother just read that's next on the list.
Reveling in the woes of others I guess... |

| Labuda Tue 4/20/2004 6:39p | Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser - GREAT book, even if it does dis Disney a tad according to my brother (I haven't gotten to that bit yet).
Hard to describe it in my own words, so here's the blurb off the back of the book:
Fast food has hastened the malling of our landscape, widened the chasm between rich and poor, fueled an epidemic of obesity, and propelled American cultural imperialism abroad. That's a lengthy list of charges, but Eric Schlosser makes them stick with an artful mix of first-rate reportage, wry wit, and careful reasoning. Schlosser's myth-shattering survey stretches from California's subdivisions, where the business was born, to the industrial corridor along the New Jersey Turkpike, where may of fast food's flavors are concocted. Along the way, he unearths a trove of fascinating, unsettling truths - from the unholy alliance between fast food and Hollywood to the seismic changes the industry has wrought in food production, popular culture, and even real estate.
There are also a threee quotes from positive reviews - the New York Times, LA Times, and San Francisco Chronicle. I really can't recommend this book highly enough - it tocks! |

| Chedstro Tue 4/20/2004 9:50p | ^^^Fast Food Nation is a great book. If you like it, I would also recommend "Nickel and Dimed in America" Every teenager in America should read this book if they think they can get by with a job at WalMart or McDonalds. The author went out and worked at "blue collar" jobs and found out that she simply could not live on the wages she was paid. A real eye-opener for those who say, "Gee, they should just get off welfare and get a job."
