| mmaus1962 Wed 9/15/2004 8:44p | So, I'm wondering...have any of you ever wanted to dress up in Scarlett-type outfit for fun? There are two dresses that Vivian Leigh wore in GWTW that I'd love to wear. One is the green and white dress she wears at the beginning. The other is the red dress Rhett insists she wear to Ashley's birthday party. I'd just love to have a reason to wear something like that. <sigh> |

| Lisann22 Wed 9/15/2004 8:50p | ^^^God yes! I love those dresses. Once on my many trips to Atlanta, I went to Stone Mountain Park (where they forgot they lost the war) and they had the dresses displayed, you could try on some, the backs were open so you could just slip them on. I was much thinner than. I was in heaven! I'll have to dig those pictures out. |

LOL!!!
That's so cool that you got to try on those dresses! They have one of those Old Time Studios here; I should just go and try something on and get my picture taken just for fun.
When you say they had the dresses displayed, do you mean the dresses from the movie? Or what I was talking about above? |

| FaMulan Wed 9/15/2004 8:58p | But to have to wear those clothes all day.
Sure, they're beautiful, but you have to wear your bloomers, a chemise, a corset, a hoop-skirt, then the dress itself which can be all of like 10 yards worth of fabric, most of that in the skirt!
Those antebellum dresses are fairly akin to the clothes Noble Ladies of the Renaissance wore and I know for a fact that those ensembles can weigh 60 lbs or more. |

| Lisann22 Wed 9/15/2004 9:01p | I know what you're saying FaMulan. I'd never wear those dresses all day but it was fun to see what I looked like in one, with the huge hat and umbrella.
mmaus - they had in glass display cases the dresses and other clothing from the movie, but the ones we tried on were replicas.

| Lisann22 Wed 9/15/2004 9:03p | They also had a corset of Vivien Leigh's and her horrible 19" waist. That sucker only fit around one side of me.
LOL! |

| mmaus1962 Wed 9/15/2004 9:32p | Oh, absolutely, Fa! I'd have hated to have to wear that stuff all day! Ugh! I still think it would be fun to try on and wear for a little bit.
And don't get me started on the 19" waist thing...this is the mellow haven. Waist sizes are irrelevant! :D |
