| melekalikimaka Thu 12/23/2004 6:08p | Ah, well, my estranged mother sent me a Xmas card today. (I've repeatedly asked her to not contact us.) Anyway, in the card was a generic letter to everyone where she actually says:
I am so thankful to be free of the terrible Salem, OR neighborhood my little house was in. After living there, I have great empathy for those who live in war-torn countries where one may never rest and the noise of battle and strife are always present.
Hello? Am I just overly sensitive and judgmental about what a stupid statement that is? Maybe I just know how happy her all of neighbors are when she moves away. (And how happy her co-workers are when she quits or gets fired.)
Oh, and she sent me a homemade cd of her songs that she's been writing and performing (at a retirement home-captive audience, don't you know).
So, I am doing my very, very best to not curl up into a fetal position and whimper as I usually what I do when I get any mail from her.
Maybe that's why I pulled out the rum. I just don't have time to be comatose. I'm doing pretty well today, much better than yesterday, even after getting the letter.
And it will be a better Xmas w/her not here because I know she won't get mad and physically attack me or call the police and lie about how I am abusing my children like she did the last time I saw her, 3 Xmases ago. So, even though it sounds really messed up, she kind of reminded me why I am happier w/o much family during the holidays.
But there's not enough rum in the world to get me to listen to that cd. LOL |

| FaMulan Thu 12/23/2004 8:47p | Sigh,
The cat had a recheck tonight and the vet was able to express a full stream from his bladder. What a relief to know that he doesn't need to go in for nasty surgery again.
mmmmmm hot buttered rum... |

| MissCandice Thu 12/23/2004 9:47p | Ahhh..the mellow thread...let me just pick up my microphone here...**clears throat**
Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Don we now our gay apparel, Fa la la, la la la, la la la. Troll the ancient Yuletide carol, Fa la la la la, la la la la. See the blazing Yule before us, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Strike the harp and join the chorus. Fa la la la la, la la la la. Follow me in merry measure, Fa la la la la, la la la la. While I tell of Yuletide treasure, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Fast away the old year passes, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Hail the new, ye lads and lasses, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Sing we joyous, all together, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Heedless of the wind and weather, Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Now pass the spiked egg nog! |

Sniff. That was beautiful, just beautiful.
April, I do believe your mom might be even more difficult than the Outlaws (darling Mr. Glitter's mutant parents).
And now I am about to utter a sentence that I never in a million years would have thought would come out of my mouth. . . .
Could I please have some of that eggnog? |
