The time is the mid-1980's. Budweiser brings out a new TV ad that looks at first glance like a music video. Very smooth music, featuring a big star you would never have thought would stoop to making TV commercials. Lots of rock purists complain, and Neil Young reveals that he turned down a huge offer to work for Bud. |

| alexbook Mon 5/22/2006 1:39p | Y'know, this is one of those lessons in the fallibility of memory. I was so sure that it was Eric Clapton's rendition of "This Bud's for You" that set Neil off. That's the answer I was looking for, anyway. But after doing a little searching on the web, it looks like Clapton may never have actually sung those words, and what set Neil off may have been (depending on which article you read) either Michael Jackson or the Rolling Stones, or maybe somebody else, or the whole trend towards corporate sponsorship of rock & roll in general. Anyway, I messed up, and I'm sorry. I won't try to come up with another question, 'cause I'll probably just mess that one up, too. |
