From post 116:

"OK. let's compare Splash Mountain at Disneyland to Knott's copy of Splash."

Knott's copy of Splash? Perhaps you should hop in the "way-back machine" and then rephrase that, Sherman.

I guess you guys just dont understand my point. Gosh, its impossible to say anything I like about DCA, without being taken as saying the park is in perfect shape and just needs a little tinkering here and there. I did not say that and dont feel that way.

Now, what I said was that parks like Knotts have nothing the caliber of ToT, Soarin, Animation, ITTBAB, or even Muppets for that matter. That is just the simple truth and if you honestly cant admit that, then you just are unable to give an honest unbiased opinion.

Also, I absolutely agree that Knotts will give you a longer visit than DCA, as will any SF park. But it will give you a longer day than Animal Kingdom and MGM also. Does that imply that those parks are relatively similar to Knotts? NO WAY. What I am saying is that more attractions doesnt mean that the quality of visit is better.

Also, taking the worst attractions in DCA, and then saying,"see, Knotts version of those attractions is better" as an argument for the parks being similar in experience is completely laughable.

Soarin, ToT, Animation, Muppets, ITTBAB, Alladin and MSEP could all be in DISNEYLAND. I actually think that GRR could absolutely go in also, but lets just leave it out for now.

Now, please list the attractions at Knotts that would definitely be worthy of Disneyland, shouldnt be difficult since Knotts has plenty of that Disney magic also.

>There are many little Disney touches,
>even at DCA, that give you such a
>different feeling than those other
>standard parks.

Perhaps, but there are also a lot of glaring mistakes at DCA that really make me feel I'm in one of those local parks. I see the plain stucco walls and the metal chain queue railings. I see rides where no attempt to tell a story is made like in Paradise Pier. And of course there are whole areas that are just boarded up and dead like in Hollywood. I also see things like the plain looking costumes with polo shirts and khaki pants and of course the shorter operating hours. And then of course there's the attendance.

DCA has a lot more in common than Knott's or Six Flags than Disneyland does. If you want to say that DCA is still better than those places I might agree - but neither of them are even close to the same quality as Disneyland.

>The point I was trying to make
>crapshoot is, the DCA naysayers on
>these boards constantly state how DCA
>fails so miserably when compared to
>DL. Well, so does Knott's when you
>compare it to DL. And it's my opinion
>that DCA is better than Knott's and so
>are the rides that I mentioned.

So then that begs the question - should a Disney park be closer to Disneyland in quality or closer to Knott's in quality? When Disney assigns their name to a park should they be expected to produce a park with the same quality as their other offerings, or should we be willing to accept a park of lesser quality?

Should we expect a lesser park with the same price tag?

The argument always has been that we were sold a Ford at the price of a BMW. Now certainly there's nothing really wrong with a Ford, but when you pay a certain price and buy a certain brand, you should expect something more. Right?

>Soarin, ToT, Animation, Muppets,
>ITTBAB, Alladin and MSEP could all be

MSEP and Bugs maybe - but the rest are of so poor quality when you compare them to the other offerings in DL. How do you compare the Temple Digs at Indy to the sheet metal in Soarin?

DCA is no where near Disneyland quality - and I don't think anyone is really trying to suggest it is - but then the question still remains: should it be DL quality or not?

I think it should.

>>>Golden Zepher - a ride that can't run if the winds go above a couple miles per hour

Mulholland Madness - A Wild Mouse Coaster I can find at the local County Fair

Orange Stinger - I much prefer the Wave Swinger at Knott's, I love going over the top of trees instead of some concrete<<

SEE, now THAT'S "bitter" ! :-)

>>>Hmmm... look real hard at a speeding hammer, and you'll see stars too. Doesn't mean they're really there.<<<

I'm stealing that line, ModHatter. If you see it on an episode of "Joey" or something, don't sue me.

>>>The point I was trying to make crapshoot is, the DCA naysayers on these boards constantly state how DCA fails so miserably when compared to DL. Well, so does Knott's when you compare it to DL. And it's my opinion that DCA is better than Knott's and so are the rides that I mentioned.<<<

The salient point however, is that DISNEY didn't design KNOTT'S, nor did they place it as the follow-up to, and situate it a few hundred feet away from, the most beloved theme park in the WORLD.

That this is lost on some people, when making this comparison - it baffles me. To make a blunder of this magnitude is unforgivable, from a standpoint of understanding your customer core.

<<How do you compare the Temple Digs at Indy to the sheet metal in Soarin? >>

I don't know if it is really fair to compare ANY attraction's queue with Indy... Indy has far and away the best queue area of any Disney U.S. park.

Soarin's queue area is no worse than many others in Disneyland. Queue themeing is pretty much non-existent in most Fantasyland rides. If memory serves correctly, the queue for HISTA is also very nondescript.

A valid question indeed. I have always wondered why DCA was built with so many cheaper attractions. Was it purely Disney's attempt to attract the Knott's followers or was it stictly budget? I'm afraid being that close to DL is more of a disadvantage for DCA than for Knott's.
I have accepted DCA as a Disney park and truly believe it will become more Disney-like over time. I enjoy the Disney Resort as a whole and try not to break down or compare them to each other.Park hoppers makes the experience work and I hope that doesn't change.

That's funny ... Knott's Timber Mountain Log Ride opened in 1969.

Splash 1989.
