Darkbeer, just reading your post 148, I had 1 comment to add.

I dont think anybody is asking you to get worked up about the park, just would be nice to hear some honest and balanced opinion about DCA from somone with your insight and knowledge.

But see, that's just the point... Screamin', GRR, and most of the rides in the Fun Faire and Route 66 are just as standard. I happen to like Screamin' and GRR, mind you, but just because they are at a Disney park doesn't mean they aren't standard.

The point is, after checking some pics of Silver Bullet (some provided by DB), I don't see why you couldn't, say, use that track to make the Monsters, Inc ride? Not that there EVER has to be a MI ride, mind you, it's just an example of how DCA could use a Knott's attraction and make it an even better Disney ride.

>>>Bigfoot Rapids - as mentioned earlier, just like GRR<<<

oh come on Darkbeer...that's like saying a Ford is just lie a Ferrari...

and after out trip a couple weeks ago I have to add that while some of the attarctions at Knotts could have fit into Disneyland or DCA when they were new , I don't think that is the case any longer...at least not without A LOT of cleaning...the place was very dirty..:(

I personally find Knott's very clean, they have been doing a lot of work around the park, including a repavement project, just like DL....

Hey, when I enter the queue for Bigfoot Rapids, I fell the themeing from the beginning... I don't get jarred by the view of Anaheim Convention Center and the powerlines, or Mikey's Parking structure...

I would rate the Rapids rides in SoCal as follows

1. Shipwreck Rapids, good themeing, many "sets" along the ride adding to the story, the ability to control the amount of wetness offered on the ride (you get more soaked in Summer than Winter).

2. Bigfoot Rapids, the queue is well done and the ride has lots twists and turns

3. Grizzly River Run - This could have been sooo much better, the lift hill is awful, the themeing along the ride is minimal.

4. Roaring Rapids - the FIRST Rapids ride on the West Coast has held up well... I am not impressed with the queue and all the steps involved... once you get to the top, the loading area is quite small... But the actual ride is quite good.

Darkbeer, you know I respect your observations and opinions, though I disagree with many of your opinions regarding DCA.

But that comment about Bigfoot Rapids being just like GRR is one of the most ludicrous statements I've read. Sure, they're both in water and you ride in a round raft; other than that, the chasm between the quality of the two attractions is wider than your smile after a few drinks at the Cove Bar. GRR is in every way, be it great or small, superior to Bigfoot Rapids. I'm flabergasted that you would even think of making such a statement even when wallowing in the throes of hyperbole.

I'm afraid I'll have to chalk up that comment to one too many trips to the Cove, DB.

;)

Just to prove how unbiased you are Darkbeer, in your above list, you said at least 1 positive thing about each raft ride except GRR.

GRR is considered by many people in SoCal and elsewhere in the U.S., to be the single best raft ride in the country because of ride and theming, but you cant find 1 thing good about it.

So... I'd like some information on how GRR is so different from Bigfoot that it is clearly superior. I like both of them a lot.

GRR has that awesome drop, sure. But Bigfoot has better "who's gonna get soaked THIS time" factor.

Honestly, I could care less about getting soaked on the ride. I like the caves, the roaring bear, the geysers, the drops, the scenery and the rapids are actually pretty good. That is why I rate it above all other rapid rides.

I found Bigfoot theming (and I'm being generous here) to be lackluster--and almost non-existent. I also turned off by all the crud in the water and the blue-green peeling paint in the flume (or whatever it's called). I did like that it was longer than GRR, but whatever advantage was gained by the duration was lost by the sheer lack of imagination in the ride. I'm afraid I completely disagree with any assertion that GRR has no theming along the way--and, for the sake of argument, even if there is little theming, there certainly is far more theming than that in Bigfoot. There is none, unless you mean the trees.

I did have fun riding Bigfoot, but in comparison to GRR, I'm tremendously underwhelmed by it.

Sounds like you are talking more about Big Foot Rapids than just about anything else.

Lets see, dark caves, Big Foot roaring at rafts, geysers spraying rafts, used to have a great waterfall dunk one or two riders: too bad it had to be turned off due to safety concerns, nice woodsy scenery.

Just not enough significant show differences between Big Foot Rapids and Grizzly River Rapids to even talk about.
