Im seem to recall most of those on Bigfoot. In fact, doesn't Bigfoot growl too?

In the polls I have seen, it was Popeye's and Bluto rapids ride at IOA that is the number one rated rapids ride in the country...

>> usually put whitewater raft rides near the bottom of my "gotta-do" list because, from one to the next, they're not all that dissimilar: some rapids, some slow spots, a fountain or water curtain, maybe a tunnel. Fun, yes, but they usually don't tug at my heartstrings unless the sun is really beating down hard. And when that happens, of course, lines for these soakers become interminably long. Kind of a Catch-22.

Thanks to Universal's Islands of Adventure, there's now a whitewater rafter that qualifies as "gotta-do," heat or no heat. Just as Marvel Super Hero Island's Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man raises the bar for dark rides, Toon Lagoon's Popeye and Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges sets a new highwater mark (pun very much intended) for its category. Elaborately themed, exquisitely long and turbulent beyond belief, the Barges are a solid A+ from start to hair-raising finish. It simply blows away every other raft ride out there.<<

wow..this is the first time I have 'heard' anywhere that anyone thinks Bigfoot Rapids is even in the same leauge as GRR much less it's equal...sure Bigfoot is themed compared to the raft ride at Magic Mountain, but come on...the the most prominent view on the ride is the back of a bunch of run-down storage buildings and concrete...

Yeah, I agree that alot of people rate BRB as the #1 raft ride ahead of GRR. But, many people rate GRR #1.

Again... I don't really care so much if people think GRR is the greatest when they can't find anything to say about it that doesn't apply to every raft ride I've ever been on. It's a little like picking a President because he has a manly handshake.

It just sounds like a lot of rah-rah-ing. Not very persuasive.

But, to do a crazy thing like relate this back to the thread topic... are people aside from Disney enthusiasts saying this is the #1 river ride? By what margin? And, most importantly, is one ride enough to get them to come to DCA instead of Knott's or SFMM?

Are non-Disney-enthusiasts going to rush out to see Aladdin, or to see the Animation Building? Are they going to care two licks about an entire land full of bugs? What is DCA doing to actually attract the audience it was trying to keep on the resort?

And, for the Disney enthusiasts, is there enough at DCA to get locals to pay the extra money and spend the extra time to leave the Grandpappy of them all? Ooh, two more 3-D movies, and one not-so-3-d. A dark ride even Disney die-hards wouldn't ride, and so bad NO one wanted a clone of it.

And, for the Disney enthusiasts not local, is there enough at DCA to justify a trip here instead of Florida, or DLP or Tokyo?

There are a whole lot of potential audiences whose needs are not being met by DCA. So, why try so hard pleasing an audience that will rave and gush no matter what actual product goes into the park?

Who would have thought 25 years ago that there would be multiple posts with the word "Disney" and Rapids Ride in the same sentence and that people would defend it?

RE: #165

Theme Park Critics overall ratings are as follows.

GRR- 8.9, making it the highest rated.

BRB-8.6

BFR-6.46

RR-5.29

I dont know what thats worth, but there it is.

BTW, I think GRR could be better. They could have at least put a realistic looking roaring bear in the cave, even if they didnt want to use animatronics, and the scene with the camping kayakers isnt exactly spectacular.

Also, I forgot to add that I read many of the individual reviews and many people stated that they felt that GRR was the best rapids ride in the world.
On page 4, a couple of people specifically say its better than BRB.

On the other hand, some people say it isnt as good as BRB, and many people on the BRB review, say it is definitely the best.

I read a couple of the previous posts, and I tend to agree that I got off subject with this debating of raft rides. Sorry!!

<<The Ghost Town area would fit into Frontierland. >>

Something I thought might be kinda cool. What if they put an old ghost town in DCA modeled after Frontierland?

Same basic layout as the shops, but designed to look like its been abandoned for over 100 years.
