I really don't follow your point . How does...>>>I wonder some times, what kind of fun you might have if they did close the park, and return it to the land it once was.<<<
come accross as meaning that you must love the park, or that I care if you hate it? In fact the thought behind it was base on the idea that most of the people who hunt for the flaws, and failures of the park, do in fact injoy it. This being said, just how much joy would they, or you have if they turned it back into "parkingland".
It's kind of a be carefully what you wish for, comment. (and no I don't think that is what you are wishing for)
As for my comment/question...>>>I am amazed that you find no inspiration in the attractions or "lands of DCA.<<<. Well I was truly amazed. the off hand comment you made regaurding DCA's uninspired attractions, seemed out of place for you. I do think that you find some fun in finding flaw with in the parks design and construction. Am I really so far off in that? Do you find no joy in the act at all? If so I am curious as to why you do it.
<<This assumes that the fun we get in DCA comes ONLY from criticizing it, which is boneheaded and typical of your comments.>>
I don't think it is your only source of fun, but I do believe that it is one source. As is lambasting posters with a diffrents of ideas.

you and I have "talked" about this befor. and it is a point well made again.
Our perspective differ from our "home base".
I watched the park being built via the computor, and the once or twice a year that we could come down. It is also based largly on a "tourist" point of California, so it made sence to me with out coming of as too campy. From your point of veiw (living there, and visiting every day) I could see it a bit diffrent. I should have picked a word other than bitter, as it was more than likly a let down, than a slap.

>>I watched the park being built via the computor, and the once or twice a year that we could come down. It is also based largly on a "tourist" point of California,<<

Well .. not only that .... it's also having so many other options here in Southern California that DCA must compete with:

Universal Studios
Magic Mountain
Knott's Berry Farm
Sea World in San Diego
A HORD of Entertainment Malls
LA County Fair
"OC" County Fair
... and the park that sits across the way ;)

When it comes to out of towners ... It's possible to sway those tourists to staying on Disney property.

Those of us who grew up here ... who know our way around pretty well ... have the low-down on all the finite details to a visit. (All the pros & cons of going)

And to be fair, that was supposedly the point of this thing and for all we know, it may be doing just that.

BUT, I don't understand how they thought they could ignore the local community they way they did when 60% of them is what keeps DL open? It makes no sense and after 3 years, it obviously dawned on them that it was a stupid idea.

Right... There's a marketing theory that suggests people go to Disneyland because it's the original and arguably the best. And you go to WDW because there is more to do at the resort than you could at just the Anaheim park. So, the general idea of a Disneyland resort whose second gate would more or less pay for itself out of admissions was a good idea.

However, since Anaheim does not have the "resort" capabilites that Orlando does, and may never have them, it seems that more effort should have been made to play up to Anaheim's strength -- originality.

People who were already coming to Anaheim might stay an extra day, or maybe even two, but there is simply very little to draw the WDW audience away from Orlando to come to Anaheim instead, since they essentially have all of these rides at home. And just as importantly, the people not going to WDW or Anaheim weren't drawn when these attractions were at WDW, why would they suddenly be attracted to them in droves just because they are now in California?

There was very little offered to attract new guests to the Disneyland resort. Instead, it really was an effort to milk the faithful. But even the fans know a sell out when they see one, and attendance has borne that theory out.

DCA needs to truly offer something new and exciting, and unique among the Disney properties to really justify itself and get the fans in the stands, as the saying goes.

When I read about the economic problems facing the Disney parks in Paris, I wonder how much of that (and I'll even say, if any) applies to DCA. At least Euro Disneyland got better press back in the 1990s after it opened, but then again it cost more to build than DCA. I'm not sure if this suggests that DCA is limping along as much as the parks in Europe are, or possibly that it's faring even worse or maybe doing a bit better than certainly the Disney Studios park in France:

>>>>> The [Euro Disney] company, controlled by Walt Disney, said 12.4 million people visited its two theme parks in the year, unchanged from the year before, but well below the peak annual figure of 13.5 million in the 12 months that ended in March 2003, after the second park opened. The company said it lost 145.2 million euros, about $188 million, on revenue of 1.05 billion euros. While revenue was flat, the loss widened from 58.3 million euros the prior year, partly because Walt Disney no longer waives some royalty payments.

An overhaul of the financing in 1994 essentially delayed problems for a decade in the hope that growth would resolve the situation. It did not, necessitating another overhaul this year.

Euro Disney tried to improve its financial performance in 2004 by raising prices, including the elimination of off-season admission discounts. That appeared to hurt attendance last winter, but in the summer the increased prices contributed to a 6 percent gain in theme park revenue compared with the summer before.

But that gain was in comparison with an extremely disappointing summer of 2003, when revenue plunged. Still, even with the increase this year, the revenue from the theme parks was lower than it had been in the summer of 2002.

Mr. Speed said that to draw additional visitors the company planned to revamp its Space Mountain ride in 2005 and to introduce one new attraction a year in 2006, 2007 and 2008. <<<<<

^^^So even Euro Disney is getting a new attraction once a year for 3 years??

Meanwhile, O.G. Disneyland is bending over backwards just to bring Buzz for it's 50th with no announcements for anything else. Isn't something wrong with that picture?

Not really, sure you can say unfair un fair, but...
If you were the king in charge would you not put more it to area's that were lacking? Disneyland needs a ton of love, yet it also has a HUGE following, and is well able to attract people in with it's present collection of shows, and attractions. Yet DLP is struggling, as is the kid next door (DCA). so where do you put the cash?
Disney can not afford to have any of their parks completly fail, to the point of closure. they will continue to "fix" the problems, at some what the exspence of the successful ones. Untill the draining effects the profitability of division, to a point of near death they really don't have much option.
The effect of closing any of the parks would drop the companies shares to the brink, and open it up to a markit of sharks
