And if you think that we argue about attendance, I don't even want to think about the arguments about the financial information. For example, how much of a park hopper price should go to the DCA vs. Disneyland. Or even harder to figure out is how much of the "overhead" park staff and back office counts to just the DCA?
Generally speaking I think that the DCA does turn a profit. However, I don't think that it's nowhere near the type of profit that they want to make.

I would estimate about $10 at DCA 35 at Disneyland. Once you do that, everything else is profit, even the food and the merchandise.
As for finances, all they give stockholders are some bland pie charts, and even those aren;t park specific. It amazes me how much they hide from their investors. Not to mention they can get away with a nothing dividend.
I would like Iger to restore it to a decent amount, that would gain him a lot of fans very quickly. |

Oh Trippy my man ... We know you like you like DCA ... but ... if I may say: Denial ain't just a river in Egypt. ;~ |

Nah... don't think so. Anyone who ever IMAGINED that a second gate could compete one on one with Disneyland had to be smoking far better stuff than I've ever had.
Not that DCA is a first tier Disney Park (though in my opinion it is better than MGM in Orlando or Disney Studios in Paris).
But no park, with the POSSIBLE exception of Epcot (and Disney isn't building them like that any more) could ever draw like Disneyland does. Frankly, I think it is pretty impressive (given the market) that DCA draws as well as it does.

Also, I don't know, but I have a feeling Westcot could've held it's own easily and of course lets not even talk about TDS (I know how that name drives people to near murder here ;)). Eitherway, there are COUNTLESS ways that Disney could've gone to make it a little more imaginative, charming and there I say it, Disney. Instead they decided to theme a state within a state in the most contemporary, bland, uninspiring way possible.....wow, the imagination is ENDLESS now. Who needs themes based on the sea, exotic locales, movies, animals, the future, animation and so on when you can build a park that can show a seaside carnival or a parred way down San Franciso? I mean, it makes me want to flock there tomorrow!!
Rejected DCA tagline- DCA: Still open....no REALLY!!! |

I wonder some times, what kind of fun you might have if they did close the park, and return it to the land it once was.
Oh well it dosn't really mater, as long as it provides you with some enjoyment in life.<<
If DCA was a "real" Disney park with decent rides and attractions then we would enjoy it and sing its praises. Go back to enjoying putting down people with a different point of view. At least you have that to look forward to.

And that is what the low attendance records reflect. And that is how history will record it until Disney cleans up its act and spends some money to fix it. |

The very fact that a version of DisneySea for southern California showed a schlocky Paradise-Pier area within it and that the version built in Tokyo certainly did NOT, speaks volumes. The very fact that Eisner had influence over the version being considered for here and not there, in Japan, speaks volumes too.
