I use them all the time, and take advantage of much more rides and shows at these parks than DCA. At DCA it is pretty much go in and take photos, and stop by the Cove Bar, with an occasional ride on Screamin'. The same goes for Deogge's Mom, tomorrow we are looking forward to riding coasters all day at Knott's :) (and seeing the Snoopy Ice Skating show). |

In comparison, people living in, for example, Indiana or Kansas will love DCA?
Yea, if they enjoy tourist traps that are kind of tacky and schlocky -- but not TOO tacky and cheesy (meaning mediocre in an Eisner-ized type of way) -- then DCA is their kind of place!

It is partially due to the tendency to not value things close to home. The Mall of America is one of the most visited destinations in America. I live 20 minutes away from it and go there maybe once every 2 years, and am not at all impressed by it.
Also... you So Cal folks very carefully cultivate your image of sophisticated cynicism. Admitting you enjoyed DCA wouldn't fit your image, even if you really did.

I get signed in to Disneyland Park probobly twice a year on a Silver Pass, which allows for Park Hopping.
My wife drags me over to DCA, kicking and screaming once in a while. The last time was to ride TOT and see the Brother Bear interactive. Even that was a sometime ago.
My point is, that I could get signed into Disneyland easily once a month, I can walk into Knotts on a spouse card, but I, and many of the locals prefer the beaches all year long to themeparks all year long.
Whether I go surfing or just hanging out on the beach, I do that on average of twice a week.
And that's the point, Disneyland's quality of entertainment still attracts locals all year long, with no problem. Where, DCA isn't enough of any one thing to entice the locals to forego all of the other non-themepark activities and spend a day there.

All I can say that what IS good inside is fine.....unfortunately, we are only talking about maybe 3-4 attractions at and Aladdin for most people. The rest is simply filler and why waste time on filler attractions when you can just go back to DL and ride about 20 GOOD attractions instead ;). THIS is DCA's uphill battle. |

This may seem sacrilegious, but to a certain extent much of the Magic Kingdom (I'm more familiar with WDW) is "filler". I consider the following to be "must do" attractions:
1) Pirates 2) Splash Mountain 3) Big Thunder Mountain 4) Haunted Mansion 5) Peter Pan 6) Space Mountain
Now there are another 5 or 6 attractions that are fairly enjoyable, but it is the above six that I go there for.
I think the following attractions rate HIGHLY on the "filler" list"
1) Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse 2) Flying Carpets spinner 3) Tiki Room 4) Hall of Presidents 5) Liberty Belle Riverboat 6) Tom Sawyer Island 7) Small World 8) Carousel 9) Snow White 10) Dumbo 11) Mickey's Toontown Fair (I'll be generous and just count it as one attraction.) 12) Teacups 13) Indy Raceway 14) Stitch 15) Timekeeper 16) Astro Orbitor
Of the above 16 attractions, I rarely go on more than 3-4 of them, and then it is mainly to kill time between the "good ones".

| mstaft Sat 8/6/2005 2:39p | I'll take DCA over most parks, most days. Living in Denver for 16 years now, I still find Six Flags Elitch Gardens overpriced at $32. In comparison, DCA looks like Disneyland!

| RoadTrip Sat 8/6/2005 2:50p | I was looking at my list of 6 "must do" attractions and came up with a reason why the locals probably don't like DCA as much as many non-residents do. You guys are used to a much better "Magic Kingdom" than the one at WDW that most of us visit.
To my list of 6 "must do" attractions at WDW's Magic Kingdom, I would have to add the following at Disneyland:
1) Indy 2) Matterhorn 3) Toad 4) Pinocchio 5) Alice
No wonder you guys are so danged picky. You are used to having almost twice as many killer attractions as us WDW folks.

so I guess that means that you don't want to pay for a full price, one day admission into those parks either... |
